The designated parking places on campus, I assume one is charged for this if from out of town, true? How much. How early can you arrive and park? say a game is 3:30PM, can you arrive at 6AM, have your car parked and kill time before the game?

I always park in the deck near the Coliseum and enjoy some fanfare on the walk towards Neyland.

Granted, I take back roads toward Chilhowee area/getting the heck out of traffic.

There are many places to park ranging from $5 to $30 for most places. Obviously, the closer you park the more you will pay.

I've got two spots behind Pilot on the strip in my apartment complex for $25 each...you can park there as early as you want and leave your car there until Midnight or later (no place to really tailgate though). Help a few college kids out with some beer money; not a bad walk to the stadium either.

Not being snide, honest inquiry. You live in an apartment and have two spots behind Pilot? How can that be? Probably my ignorance of Knoxville showing.

My apartment complex is right behind Pilot & the old OCI location on the strip. Between Cumberland and Lake Avenue...each apartment is allotted 2 spots in the lot.

According to a site i was poking in just now there are a few no charge sites. What can you guys tell me about them in terms of safety walking from and to them? Distance from Neyland? Just to be clear, I haven't been in Knoxville since 1964 so remember nothing about streets. If no bus service, I would be coming from the Island home area, which i think is along Island Avenue.

If you park at Market Square, pay roughly $4 and you get a round trip ticket on the trolley. It drops you off about a 5 minute walk from the stadium and starts running in the other direction at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

I always park in this lot right of Andy Holt for like $20 or $25..its pretty close to the stadium.

Really appreciate your advice guys. I'm looking at various options and will review what you tell me here. Hoping to keep my overall costs low as possible of course but within reason as other factors do matter like distance and safety, access to food etc. Your input is very helpful.

Way back in the 80's, I lived in a house that used to sit where those apartments are.

OK guys, here is what I just learned but defer to local wisdom.
Apparently from island Home, I can take the # 11 or #17 bus, both which allow me to get off at Cumberland and James Agee, I'm told one block from Neyland. I'd like to verify my information is correct. And to know what time buses stop running. I recall once I did something like this is Portland, Oregon only discover when I returned that the buses stopped running at 9PM and I was 2 miles form my hotel and no taxi was in sight. Would like to avoid a repeat of that experience.

I park in G10... but lets just say a few $$$ were contributed to get the most elite spot on campus!

To get into the Market Street Garage, better plan on getting there 2-3 hours before kickoff. It fills up pretty quickly but is a great place to park. Plenty of places to eat at Market Square and they aren't nearly as crowded as the strip. The walk to campus is easy especially if you take the pedestrian bridge over Henley St

I'm thinking of coming in at 6AM - 8AM, more likely 6AM and spend time eating a leisurely breakfast, visiting the UT campus, eating a big lunch and maybe groping Shirley at the garage before heading for the stadium area.

Seriously, guys I genuinely thank you for your advice, it's been truly helpful.

Consider where you sit, too. East side is easy from downtown. West side is easier from the Cumberland strip. North end is about equal. South end makes the ag campus and Neyland Dr area more appealing.

Oh boy, thanks. never ever thought of it. My game ticket says: Gate 22, Section: ZZ12, Row 4 don't know if that's N, S, E, or W as this is all pretty much a new experience for me.

If you're getting there that early, I'd highly recommend the Market Square garage. No safety issues at all. A little walk but I've never minded it--done it several times.

Thank you again. This right now looks like the way the wife and I may go. May show up early Friday to do a practice run to be sure we know our bearings Saturday.

For both breakfast and an early afternoon dinner, what place at Market Square would you suggest? I mean a real meal not a snack, but eating to get filled. Also meals that aren't overly sugared or over ultra salted. Not being intentionally picky but do have issues the doctor gave a stern talking to about. That doesn't stop me form eating good barbecue when I know I will be physically active like a walk from parking to the stadium, then walking around the campus before game time. Really excited about seeing my Vols live for the first time in decades!!!!

That's north end, northeastern corner actually. The Cumberland strip is an easier walk out. The downtown area is an easier walk in. If you plan to take in the pre-game pageantry (vol walk or band show) I would choose the strip area. There is plenty of paid parking available throughout that area.

In addition to the downtown garages, all the downtown surface lots will be offering parking on gameday. The earlier you get there the better. I don't know anything about bus schedules. The walk from downtown is not any worse than what I've experienced at several away venues. Keep in mind that virtually every lot on campus is restricted to permit holders only. If you get there early enough, one deal you might try is at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It's $25, but they give you a voucher use can use for food in the restaurant.

There is a really good and cheap place called Pete's Coffee Shop-Restaurant on Union St. which is just down from Market Square, and about a 3 min. walk from the Market Square garage. There breakfasts are great! I would highly recommend them. The prices are just as great.

Is the street parking on both sides of Volunteer Blvd open game or is that permit only? Seems like the right of way to me.

If you're talking about parking on the street at the meters, they are closed and no parking is allowed on Volunteer Blvd.
