Morgan Freeman is not from Tennessee.
He sure is. Memphis.

And you'll respond, "but but, but he grew up in Mississippi!"

And I'll respond, "you know where Tennesssee's three presidents (Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, and James K. Polk) were born? In the Carolinas, all three of them. One so close to the border between North and South Carolina that both those states claim him, too..

Point is, when a person moves around growing up, more than one place can and will claim him as their own. Morgan Freeman is one of our own. We'll allow Mississippi to claim him, too.

I get both sides and have seen both arguments made on here. If I could, I would change my birth certificate to Knoxville. Unfortunately, I came early and have that damn inbred state on my birth certificate. Although I was born in that God awful state and would be considered from there, I would never claim it. Hell, Usher is from Texas, grew up in Chattanooga, moved to Atlanta and now claims Atlanta,GA has his home. Only difference with him is he lived in all 3 cities for a portion of his life and for some reason just decided to claim Atlanta! 😃😃
I can somewhat relate to that. I was born in Memphis and lived in Bartlett until my dad had to start moving us around for work with his union. I lived briefly in Atlanta, Houston, Jacksonville, San Francisco and rural areas of Mississippi growing up but kept returning to the Memphis area until I started college at UT Martin and have lived in Florence, Alabama for the past 20+ years.. I'll always claim Memphis as my hometown, even though it's not exactly a source of pride. 😂

I won't respond with anything other than I have personally spoken with the man. His mom has was born and raised in Charleston, Mississippi, and lives there to this day. He was born in a hospital in Memphis, while living in Charleston, Mississippi and continuing to live there after his birth. He had a house built outside of Charleston 32 years ago and still has a home there today. Yes, he was technically born in Tennessee and if you want to use that to claim him as a Tennessean then by all means do so.

Well, you definitely know him better than I do, but yah, I'll still claim him as one of our own because (a) birthright and birthplace matter, and (b) I like him, think he's a good actor and seems to be a good person. So heck yeah, we ought to claim him. Heh.

I don't know him, at all, but I did speak with him in a classroom over 30 years ago. I will say, he comes across as the most down to earth celebrity I have ever encountered. I have always liked him, as well, and that only grew after I actually met him.

I’m hoping it’s Kamala Harris and she picks Georgia — nothing would pump up our crowd more and make them louder.
