I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying he was born in Tennessee. We all know he grew up in Mississippi. That's not in question. I responded to him not being from TN, he technically is.He was born in a Memphis hospital but grew up in Charleston, Mississippi. I know this because I graduated high school in Charleston. He had a house built there my senior year and came by the high school to visit class rooms and talk with students. His mom never moved away from Charleston. Many people from that area drove to Memphis to give birth to their children, as it is only about an hour and a half drive.
Not sure what that even means. Just like me. My parents are from TN and I was supposed to be born in Knoxville. My Mom had to come pick my Dad up from the Birmingham airport because of delays .She went into labor in Birmingham and technically I was Born in Birmingham. But, I damn sure don't claim it, just like Morgan claims Mississippi.I get your point but if a cat gives birth in an oven, it doesn't make the kittens biscuits.![]()
We should just give Memphis to Mississippi or ArkansasNot sure what that even means. Just like me. My parents are from TN and I was supposed to be born in Knoxville. Austin Riley is another..He was born in Memphis, raised in Mississippi and claims Mississippi as his home. Point being, birth records dictate where you're from, but you can claim anything you want.
Basically, just because you are born in a hospital somewhere doesn't mean that's who you are. In this case, Morgan Freeman is not a Tennessean. He never lived in Memphis, he was just born there. Yes, technically speaking, his birth certificate would have Memphis as his place of birth but he is not in any other sense a Tennessean. It is trivial and doesn't matter at all. I'm from Memphis originally myself. My only takeaway is that he wouldn't be a good choice to represent Tennessee as a gameday picker. Not sure what that even means. Just like me. I think you may be misinterpreting what I am saying. It's semantics and not worth arguing over. For me, I don't really care what is on a birth certificate. I view it from the spectrum of where you are from is where you lived either when you were born or since birth but, again, it's just semantics and different viewpoints. The point you are making is also valid.Sweet baby Jesus, you're exhausting! Again, I never said he would or should be one. ALL I said was technically he was born in TN, claiming it or not doesn't change the fact. Me not claiming being born in Alabama doesn't change the fact that technically I was born in Alabubba land. I've never even thought of him being from TN or even a TN fan. The post said he wasn't from TN, which is incorrect. If it had said he didn't claim TN, that would be different. What he claims is an entirely different matter.
I get both sides and have seen both arguments made on here. If I could, I would change my birth certificate to Knoxville. Unfortunately, I came early and have that damn inbred state on my birth certificate. Although I was born in that God awful state and would be considered from there, I would never claim it. Hell, Usher is from Texas, grew up in Chattanooga, moved to Atlanta and now claims Atlanta,GA has his home. Only difference with him is he lived in all 3 cities for a portion of his life and for some reason just decided to claim Atlanta!I think you may be misinterpreting what I am saying.
