Who are your picks for game changers on our team. Whose your top 3?
O:
Bray
Hunter
DR

D:
MJ
BB
JJ - if back/ with time off I think BB looks better overall
My favorite part was trying to select 3 because we actually have some guys to speculate about for once. Nobody proven without a doubt yet though either.

Malik Jackson will only be a hugely disruptive force if Mo Couch shows up and is the DT that everyone is dreaming he will be.

Of every position on the team, Byron Moore will be the biggest single upgrade at any position, and the second biggest will be Mo Couch. We are going from not having a CB to having a stud one. Similar situation for 2nd DT.

Offensively, expect the game changers to be Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter, and Tauren Poole. Poole will break 1000 yards rushing again this year with two to three hundred receiving yards, so don't overlook his importance.

Defensively, Byron Moore, Austin Johnson, and Jacques Smith will be our big play guys. Now, my criteria for big plays on defense are forced fumbles, tackles for loss, sacks, and interceptions. Moore should lead the interception category and Smith should be our clear sack leader at 9-10. I'm of the opinion that Johnson will build on a strong year from last year. Last year he had 44 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and a forced fumble and fumble recovery on a single play. He should lead in forced fumbles and tackles for loss as Couch and Jackson will split tfl's.

Bray, Hunter Dallas. Poole isn't a game changing type of back. Neal and Lane can be in healthy and their heads are on right.

I don't understand why people have such lofty expectations for Poole this year. I just don't think he will get enough carries to rush for over 1000.

I honestly don't think he gets the carries either. If Neal had kept his head right last year Poole wouldn't have gotten the carries he did. There wasn't anybody else to hand off too. Our OLine will be better but he loses touchs to Neal and Lane unless he all of a sudden developed explosion and can read his blocks and hit the holes instead of bouncing outside. He doesn't have the speed to bounce it outside. Only thing is we play a much easier schedule than last year and play softer defenses.

I don't understand why people have such lofty expectations of in-coming freshmen who have yet to go thru their first college level workout, but expect our senior, team leading RB to fail.

I'm hoping They come in and ball out. We need playmakers bad and Poole isn't one of them. He's ok but not a stud or gamechanger.

I dont understand why people are underestimating Poole. I think hes a good back. One thing we can all agree on is hes a hard worker and an overall good kid. Im not sure about the other guys. I hope your all wrong, and he gets 1000+ this year. But if we spread the carries, and we can get 1500+ on the groud as a backfield, ill be happy with that too.

Offense: Bray, Poole, Hunter
Defense: Malik, Janzen, Waggner

Anyone banking on a true freshman coming in and immediately being one of the top 3 impact players on either side of the ball should put the kool-aid down. It is a rare thing for a freshman to come in and immediately be a big time impact player from the get go. I'm sure people will point at Bray, Hunter, Janzen as a freshman, and maybe a few others and say, "they made huge impacts." They were all good players as freshmen, but an impact player is someone who comes in and is immediately one of the best players on the team. I have only seen 2 in my years of watching tennessee football, Jamal Lewis and Eric Berry, and i hate to say it but nobody of that caliber signed with us on signing day.

I agree completely. Poole will be a stud this year. He rushed for 1,000 last year behind a young and inexperienced OL. We know he has break away speed after all he outran Bama's secondary last year.

Offense:
Bray-He will light some teams up this year
Poole-With a better offensive line, the sky will be the limit for Poole
Hunter-He will end up being one of the greatest receivers in Tennessee Football history, he has the speed, size, and athleticism to dominate any opponent.

Defense:
J Jackson-Honestly I believe he will return, and when he does he will be the focal point of our defense.
M Jackson-The front seven may struggle at times this year but I'm expecting Malik to kill some people.
Lathers- Herman Lathers has great size and speed and I think he will be one of the biggest play makers on the team.

Also, I didn't say Poole will "fail." Between Poole, Neal, Williams, and Lane (since you brought him up) I don't believe he will get enough carries to be as productive as everyone is claiming he will be.

I like Poole a lot and think he will get another kilo of yds. However, I see Neal as being more of a game-changer and ready to take a few to the house this season. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
