GAME 1 VOLS vs 'CUSE The Good, The Bad & THE UGLY!

The thing about game 1 is you really don't know how good your opponent is. So the question is are we worse on defense this year OR is Syracuse one of the best offensive teams in the country once again this season?

We'll find out as the season progresses but we need to fix the mistakes on defense. Lot of mental breakdowns on 3rd and 4th down. Also we need to get healthy. Way too many guys kept going down.

I'm very impressed with our depth. We played a ton of guys at almost every position. I was most impressed with Colton Hood and Ty Redmond. We look set at CB.

Obviously Aguilar and the running backs went off. We look like the 2022 offense with the 2024 defense. A natty run is definitely possible.
We look like neither the 2022 offense, nor the 2024 defense.

Lot of mistakes on D and all the Dline injuries hurt but Syracuse has a good offense, they are not a cupcake team. Nothing that can't be cleaned up.

2024 defense? I took a lot of drugs, but I ain't seeing it. I see the 2022 defense. We were missing 3 DTs, so getting them back may help.

The good: The O-line, the 3 headed RB monster, Aguilar, Staley, the CB’s look solid, the D for the sacks and TFL and the Hood TD. The D-line depth after some injuries

The bad: the D for giving up so many points. In their defense Angeli is a pretty good QB and that RB Wills is a dude

The ugly: Syracuse “injury” in the 2nd half. They almost had 2 guys faking an injury to slow us down. The injury to Moi. I hope thats not a fractured elbow.

I am over Turpentine @ safety. Too small cant jump and isn't really a factor over the middle in the passing game. I'm ready to see one of the young athletes (of which there are many) play more.

We have players everywhere, but we are missing a giant defensive tackle. Travis Smith had some room to work if JA had brought that pass down right before half.

Bad is obviously the injuries up front on defense. Matthews & Arion Carter are cramping up. Probably just first game stuffs. GoVols 🍊

I love the Vols, but we are not natty potential! Get real!

D4H is one of the most delusional humans on Earth. There was no result today that would have made him believe we are anything less than the best team in the nation. Even a loss would have been spun to mean we were on the cusp of dominance.

We looked fine today. Look like an 8 or 9 win team, like 80% of people thought we would be.

The good - JA impressed me as did our running backs. The offense looks like it’s old self. Granted . . . They weren’t playing a great defense.

The bad - injuries and officiating . . . And our run defense - especially against the inside run.

The ugly - our 3rd and 4th down defense.
Robinson impacted the game. Hood is a player! Cuse has a stud NFL RB.

The Good - Joey is a mid to higher range SEC QB
The Bad - PI Call, Bank's 4th Down Defensive Call, Ross's weak ass punt <40 yards from inside 10 yard line
The UGLY - Injuries, injuries, even Pre-Game injuries.

Oh...and..WHERE'S THE FLAG??!!!!

Who won the game and by how much

Good: Star Thomas. Kid shows flashes of Alvin Kamara. The other 2 are good too, but Star could be special.

Bad: Joey Aguilar consistently threw the ball too high. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next 2 weeks.

The Ugly: The Refs. Refs blatantly missing those fake injuries. Dude even fell right in front of him. And a million othe horrible misses/calls

Our QB did a good job reading the field and finding the correct WR in most instances but am concerned about the ball placement on a large number of his passes. The high balls on a consistent basis will cause injuries and lead to interceptions if not corrected. Yeah I know everybody will say I'm crazy just like last year when I voiced concerns about Nico and was told I was crazy.

Guys gotta learn to close out a game harder. I know they took the foot off the gas after they were up but cant do that till you are 30 ahead.

What I saw today made me think we should be able to pull things together through the season to be a strong contender to be in the playoffs but we are a good ways from winning it.

Agree, 9 wins would be very good season

I like the Vols trio of RBs. Power running from all three. There were flashes in the defensive play calling that give me hope for adapting to future opponents. I believe that these Vols will mature into a better team as the season progresses.

Good: O-Line was solid, Star has a burst, Joey can make plays on the run
Bad: D-Line looked average on run plays, LB's not getting off blocks
Ugly: ref's non-call on PI in Matthews, video review missing punt touching Cuse's uniform.
