Gabe Lazo Out

I want to try to be more clear. I’m saying that if Kim Caldwell (and Danny White) is so supremely confident in herself and her system and her ability to field a team next season that will suit her and her system the way she intends to go full-bore with to prove it’ll win championships at this level, then SHE, not me, is setting the bar higher than a S16. You don’t blow everything up in order to get your perfect roster and then run out there and be mediocre again. That would make all this be for nothing but the very bare minimum — not good enough.

I don‘t understand why Ferrara would take this job. He’s an associate head coach now. It would seem like this would be a step down. It seems more likely that he would have been looking for a head-coaching job somewhere, if that is what he wanted. He has 15 years experience…head scratcher for sure.
I have to wonder how many assistant coaches looking for work would find her system good enough to win championships.
It still blows my mind how many 3’s we attempt. It has been nice watching some of the players from other teams be successful with the pull up jumper.

Interesting. People have been complaining about how the recruits we brought in were not suited to the system and were overrated. Now many people are freaking out this the man they says is responsible for recruiting these players is leaving? Could there possibly be a connection there?
If Gabe was wrong about these recruits, then so were all the recruiting experts who rate recruits and all the professional media who rate recruiting classes. And all the media and coaches would’ve also been wrong that these recruits should add up to a top 10 team this year. All of these people make their living watching and rating college basketball players.

So maybe those players did have great potential and just got buried in a system that’s horrible for development and in a toxic environment the coach had no control over. That could be the possible connection.

We're gonna find out this next season (personally, I think it's the system and this all ends with Caldwell's dismissal)

In all seriousness, if Edwards stays on board (which looks likely), I really wonder how CKC will utilize her. I would be shocked if Coop stays (though I think that would be awesome) and I am not sure on Civil either.

So, we could have the Big O, Minus, the Pauldo twins and then a whole bunch of portal players

It seems like CKC system is really designed to be a no star system. Just keep sending in waves of cannon fodder players and hope the other side runs out of ammo first is the game plan.

She is going to have to adapt something I would hope to accommodate having a truly elite talent. If not, she will be digging her own coaching grave.
In that case, apparently Danny White will pony up a shovel to dig her out.
How much convincing does he need?

Perhaps people in the coaching world find her system and prospects more appealing than the people on this message board do. That certainly seems to be the take away.

Exactly! Wouldn’t it be some sh$t if the coach who drove the program into the ditch gets extra grace next year because the program is so darn hard to pull out of the ditch?

If this year was indeed an an aberration of cancerous recruits, then we should pick up next year where we left off in that glorious first year of Caldwell. Players much more carefully selected and 100% system all the time with no Plan B so S16 minimum. Thats what she did her first year and what Harper was fairly routinely doing. She was hired to go further. So actually yes, E8 should be the bar next year but S16 being acceptable.

Also, I would expect next year to take a firm step forward out of middish SEC results. I’d like to see us firmly in that Oklahoma Kentucky Ole Miss second tier just behind the big three.

It goes both ways. Our fans over value our own players and assistants as well.
And who’s the head coach that brought those recruits and assistants in? I know you have mentioned that she did a terrible job with roster construction and that’s exactly my point. If she brought all of these assistants and players in that were no good, then what should give anyone confidence in her ability to hire the right assistants or recruit the right recruits now?

I wouldn’t say the rakings are wrong, these players were dominant in high school and that’s a high school ranking. Civil was the only one I was really high on coming in, but I was evaluating them for the college level. It’s just like a highly rated college player, doesn’t always translate to the WNBA, there’s level to everything. When evaluating a prospect u need to look at the skills and how I think it will translate to the next level, but the rankings aren’t done that way.

I’m not sure why no one will believe this poor woman. There is not a question of how she’ll utilize Edwards, Coop or anyone else. Lol we just don’t want to hear what we don’t want to believe. Just like we didn’t want to believe Danny when he said he had full confidence in her.

She will not be adapting accommodating or adjusting and she’s told us that. If that means she’s also digging then so be it.

is that not where it was this year? Did we not finish in a tie with Kentucky and Ole Miss and win the tiebreaker to finish ahead of both of those teams?

That shouldn’t be the goal, even with a remade roster next year. But I think the streak to end the year made some people forget what the actual standings were.

Or he got a pay raise or after an even more disasterous season at Fl St. he wanted a change or he and the head coach agreed that a parting of the ways was best. I for one could not be more excited to bring in an assistant coach from a coaching staff that in its best years has had middle of the road results! Let us clap harder!

I want to beat Vandy next year. Will it happen? Probably not, but that’s something I want to see.
