Ga Tech vs. Tennessee 2017 CFA Kickoff

I like this game because if UT lost this game, I know how difficult GT can be and I would much rather lose to them than an NC ST or UNC...

Confirmed that we're opening up 2017 against Georgia Tech. Tough offense to go against, but I'm confident. Go Vols!

Someone in UT's marketing department is getting their *ss handed to them right now for the big Adidas logo on Smokey's chest!

Butch Jones specifically mentions recruiting as one of the reasons for playing this game. That's why I think it's very important for recruiting in middle Tennessee to sell out the Bowling Green game. With its openers the next four seasons Tennessee is hitting North Carolina , Virginia, Georgia, and the Nashville area; all of which are places Tennessee loves to recruit.

Will totally ruin the vibe 2 years from now!

That person should be strung by their fingernails!

I'd rather play Ga Tech than Oklahoma or Oregon. The Vols should handle them with ease. The ACC is a basketball conference at best. They are easily the worst of the power five in football.

Have you seen our record vs. the ACC in this century? I think it's 2-4. UT beat Duke and NC State.

Off the top of my head, UT has lost to:

Va Tech
UNC
Maryland
Clemson

The team and coach that will be playing in '17 hasn't won or lost any of those games.

So because the ACC is a basketball conference Tennessee would handle every ACC team with ease?

ACC sure wasn't the worst power five in football last year.

A game against Ga Tech is good. Keep in mind that as an eastern division foe, we have played Georgia 44 times in our entire history. We have played Georgia Tech 43 times.

I see what you're saying, Boca.

On the other hand, we can't run from our shadow of the past 15 years. If we did that, the only other conference whose teams we would ever want to play would be the B10.

Sad but true stats time. 2000-2014 (incl. Jan 1, 2015 bowl), Vols are:

2-4 vs the ACC (as Boca pointed out)
3-1 vs the B10 (Ws vs Mich, Wis, Iowa; L to PSU)
1-2 vs the B12 (W vs A&M, Ls to KSU & Okla)
1-5 vs the PAC (W vs Cal; Ls to Cal, UCLAx2, Orex2)
1-2 vs ND

So let's turn the page and start some new trends, both inside and outside the SEC. It's Butch's turn. Go Vols!

The problem with the Braves stadium being in the Cumberland Mall area is there will be NO parking or places to eat.

They're putting in tons of parking and mixed use development with restaurants and shops. Think Turkey Creek, but closer together with better stores. Lots of hotels out that way too.

It'll be the best stadium in the majors when they're through, with the possible exception of PacBell in San Francisco.

Been through that WAY too many times! When I'd meet my future wife in Atlanta, we stayed at Dobbins AB billeting there in Marietta. So much less stress.

Sweet Jesus.

I'm not even sure what to say about that.

Get a fat hotel in Buckhead, park the car, and take the train.

This was the early 90s and I wasn't an Atlanta regular...you still have to get past Atlanta proper to get to Buckhead? I was traveling from the south.

No team in the ACC scares anyone, playing Oregon or Oklamhoma can be a complete disaster if your not weel prepared, and have the talent and sped to match up. I think the best description for most ACC teams would be dangerous or pesky.

The ACC was 4-0 vs the SEC on rivalry week in 2014.

Also went 1-1 vs Oregon and Oklahoma in bowls, for whatever that's worth.

GT will be breaking in a new QB in 2017, so that'll definitely help UT out. It should be a good game. I'm looking forward to it.

We should both be glad UGA didn't get to open the new Falcons stadium up, IMO. Should help recruiting for both of our schools. I'm also excited to get an old rival back on schedule, even if it's for a one-off.

Both Tennessee and Georgia Tech will be breaking in a new quarterback so it'll be even in that catagory.
