PRUITT TEMPERS EXPECTATIONS FOR PETERSON
Tennessee’s top 2018 signee JJ Peterson finally arrived on campus Sunday, but the Vols will have to wait a bit to see their 4-star linebacker in action.
Peterson must go through the five-day NCAA acclimation period before getting any work in full pads. The Colquitt County (Ga.) will be at practice later today.
“I wouldn't put unrealistic expectations on him,” Pruitt said. “We'll put him out there and try to teach him the fundamental things that we're trying to get done. We'll see where he goes from there.”
Peterson’s arrival was delayed nearly two months as he finished academic work to become eligible. While the Vols hoped to insert the Top-100 prospect into the rotation at inside linebacker in fall camp, Peterson’s current conditioning is unknown and he must now acclimate to taking college courses.
“It’s going to be the first time he's attended a college class," Pruitt said. "I think it's important for freshmen to get here during the summer so they can kind of adapt to the college routine. So there will be a lot of adjustments for him. He obviously missed all of the summer conditioning, fall camp.”
