'26 GA LB Brayden Rouse (Tennessee)

he’s 6’3 210…will probably get him to around 225+ though after S&C.
Yep. That's how top high school kids look. Big, lengthy, chiseled out frame with room to pack on weight with a SEC strength staff and focusing on just football. Rouse played 3 sports at Kell and they didn't put any bad weight on him

As long as our linebackers are physical, fast and tackle hard and soundly. Our defenses have not contained the edges well in years. Whoever has been coaching and teaching pursuit angles hopefully is no longer doing it. I do have a lot more confidence and optimism with our new defensive staff. GBO

The more our younger, faster, and more athletic LBs like Spillman, Perlotte, Rouse, and Harmon can work their way up the depth chart, the better. I.e., take time from Telander.

100%. I hate to say this but it's true. Telander is a thumper and good for run defense between the Tackles. He is just a step slow, and a liability in pass coverage. Will be interesting to see who are starting LBs are in fall scrimmages and then opening day. Campbell has to be a lock. Spillman was 1 of our 3 Freshman AAs and had 80 tackles. Perlotte should take a leap as long as he has it between the ears. Then the 2 true freshmen for 26 are just animals. Both future starters IMO.

I honestly dont see why Perlotte can't play as Knowles Jack/Star Safety. He has the speed and athleticism. If he is pretty sharp and willing to put the time in the film room I dont see why he can't play there. Maybe I am wrong.

I have really liked Coach Inge since his 1st press conference. He is clearly bright and loves ball. I think he hurt the defense last season maybe by sticking with Telander. I get him having more trust in the upperclassman...and Telander was on the leadership council. I dont think he was the best option at LB last year opposite Carter though. Hope it doesn't happen again this year or it might cost him his job.

I'd agree Telander is a step slower and not as laterally adept as he needs to be but if I'm not mistaken JT makes the defensive calls/alignment when he's on the field. And coaches value that a ton. Clearly though, JT's angles and spacing were problems at times. Usually very strong up the middle but backward and sideways was his challenge. He also gives 100% on every play. You do that...and coaches will prone to play you.

Did not know he was the one with the Mic in his helmet, fitting our alignment. So he's the smart one in the LB room. That's gonna probably keep him on the field which sucks IMO. I love the guy...he is all VOL and hustles every snap. Throws his body around with abandon and is a thumper. You are correct though that his lateral and backwards quickness is just a step slow. If all of us can see that...SEC coaches are gonna abuse that on offense...and they have. We couldn't keep contain all year at DE/Edge, and teams forced us into plays where our LBs and DBs had to make tackles in space and shredded us on the edges and underneath all year.

These new Safeties and Campbell at LB should help a lot with that...and be much better tacklers. Somebody is gonna have to have the brains to wrestle that Mic Helmet away from Telander for us to be a top20 defense again though IMO. I am more interested in the LB competition in camp than the QB spot. I think GMac starts day1 and hope he does. Let him take his lumps and wins this year in 26 while we get the defense together...so he can lead us on a playoff run in 27. Go VOLS

Campbell will be the one with the green dot helmet. That was why it was such a priority for him to sign. He was that guy for Penn State.

Yes, this is going to happen. Telander will play more in shorter field situations. We should have more depth at linebacker this year. Campbell will almost certainly be defensive quarterback. GBO

Yeah he didn't luck into 103tackles in 2025. There's a pretty good film breakdown on him on YouTube. Hope he's the leader in that room from day 1. We have so much young talent in that room now.

The most tackles in remember seeing from Arion Carter was 86 IIRC. We haven't had a 100+ tackle LB in a good while. If Campbell matches that pace this year he will be on the ALL SEC team.

Could be wrong but I think AJ Johnson might’ve been the last one.

Ain’t no way Telander is getting meaningful snaps anymore with Knowles. Too much talent to sit on the bench or not rotate.
In a 4-2-5, there is a MLB type position and an OLB/SAM type position that is typically more athletic. While they are somewhat interchangeable, those descriptions are generally what you're looking for.

Campbell is going to be the starting MLB. Spillman would be next in line. I see Telander as the 3rd MLB. He's not an OLB. The OLBs will be Perlotte and, I'm predicting at some point, Rouse. Harmon/Burns are also in that mix.

I'm sure Banks and Heupel decided who started

I’d preferred Knowles turns him into our Luke Kuechley or whatever that crackers name was.

Best LB I have ever seen in person. By a mile.
Last I saw he still held the record for most career tackles in FBS (this was pre-CV19 BS) despite leaving early and only playing 3 years of college ball vs everyone else's 4. Just went and checked. Apparently he is second all time now (maybe extra covid years?) Regardless he was ridiculous in FBS and in the NFL. My favorite Panther ever.
