If top 10 classes are “mediocre at best” then he’s mediocre. His last 3 classes on Rivals have averaged #8 (7, 8 and 10). In my opinion, that’s better than “mediocre at best.” Rankings of 15-25 are mediocre. Comfortably inside the top 10 is very good, inside the top 5 is excellent.

I’ll take a top 10 signing class while also plucking a hand full of 4 and 5 star guys out the portal every time.

And regarding his DB recruiting, Mullen’s got a helluva list of 4 and 5 star DB’s he’s committed and signed over the last few cycles. Just a quick count, I see nine 4-star DB’s, two 5-star DB’s. That’s 11 DB’s rated 4 or 5 star. You can’t get all of them. And Terrion Arnold isn’t out of the question just yet, we’ll see on him. Probably Bama-bound at this point.

UF, like every team, needs as many good players as they can get, including Arnold. But Kaiir Elam is an okay player, Trey Dean is an okay player, Kamar Wilcoxson, Jahari Rogers, Avery Helm, Rashad Torrance and many others are all highly recruited and promising players, Corey Collier and Jason Marshall are incoming 5-star players that EVERYONE wanted including Kirby and Saban.

If we swing and miss on Arnold, we’ll be okay with the guys we didn’t miss on. Doesn’t mean we don’t need Arnold, it just means we’ll need to land someone else or develop the guys already on the roster.

According to 247 Florida currently has the 13th ranked class. 13th is fine, even great, in any conference that’s not the SEC. The issue with being in the SEC is you have Bama at 1, UGA at 3, LSU at 4, and A&M at 7. I don’t think I’m saying anything controversial or shocking when mentioning Mullen’s average recruiting. He’s done excellent work with the portal, but it’s odd he can’t close with HS recruits. The Arnold situation is especially weird considering he’d be the highest ranked DB on the team if he signed. 247 mods and UF mode are saying the class is full, which is why UF just dropped a kid 3 days before signing day to make room for Gilbert. I will say Gilbert is a great get though. I don’t understand some of the UGA fans not getting why he’d go to UF after the year Pitts just had. Makes sense given that Gilbert initially went to LSU after seeing Brady’s offense.

I don't see Mullen as an elite-level recruiter, but he went 8-2 in conference, won the SEC East, gave 'Bama their closest game by far, and was a idiot's shoe-throw away from making the BCS.

You do that and I couldn't give a rat's arse what 247 or Rivals ranks our recruiting class.

not sure why that sucks. one player doesnt make an offense. also, its NSD and we have about 1/2 a staff, and no recruiting personnel.

Arik Gilbert will be there for two years. I think we need to concentrate on beating Ole Miss and Kentucky first.

247 has them at #13 currently. UF’s previous two class rankings on 247 were #9. So again, Mullen is getting top 10 classes, no matter which site you look at. I think what you’re really trying to say is you’re not going to give Mullen recruiting credit unless he’s top 5. That’s fine, I wanna be top 5 too, but I don’t equate top 10 with “mediocre.” I equate top 10 with very good, top 5 being excellent.

And when you make blanket statements like “it’s odd he can’t close with HS recruits,” it’s like you’re ignoring the HS recruits he has closed with. He closed with Kaiir Elam, Gervon Dexter, Corey Collier, Xzavier Henderson, Jason Marshall, Desmond Watson, Derek Wingo, Carlos Del Rio, Kris Bogle, Mohamoud Diabate, Josh Braun, and a whole bunch of other dudes. He closed these guys, and they are guys everyone in America wanted, and I didn’t list many other examples.

Sh*t end to the season for sure. It’s pretty clear Mullen had UF in the thick of things right down to the final seconds of the SEC championship game.

And let’s not forget what this thread is about. Mullen landed a huge commit from a former 5 star and a guy with some serious production in the SEC over only 8 games played.

Lmao you’re right and there’s no sense of urgency to hire the in-house smart choice for DC and allow him to bring in Gardner and Williams. This is what pisses ppl off. The guy is under contract and an SEC vet who can recruit with the best but is average as a coach. UT has a way of always making themselves look like a fool. You need the Auburn transfers to fill voids, but they’re being idiots and allowing this mid major hire to drag his feet with 2 days til signing day. Lmao

He will go there and be used like Pitts then go on to be a pro. This kid has it and without Brady, that LSU offense was a colossal failure.

Gilbert will have to sit out 2021 unless he gets a waiver from the SEC office - just like Cade and the Ole Miss player last year. They do not have a track record of speedy decisions so 2021 could be a non-event season for Gilbert and then he is eligible for the Draft.

Never emotional because we hv a great signing day and are loaded for 22 and 23. I know who I know within the AD and my credibility speaks for itself. I don’t allow fandom and business to mix. I learned that the hard way with cheap UT. Keep hiring and firing discount coaches and kp settling for being 3rd tier UT. I suffer too when my Bama and Fla friends beat me over the head because we suck from top to bottom administration down to athletics except basketball and baseball
