'20 GA ATH Arik Gilbert (LSU commit)

Yeah it was pretty obvious after JG was benched that we suddenly had tight ends again which blows my mind that you allowed a QBs to start that you weee afraid to use the middle of the field with. It also isn’t a coincidence that we started to use TE more once Gilbert rumors started.

Is it that, or did JG just not check multiple receivers? I wonder if he just picked a receiver before the ball was snapped and he wasn't going to throw it to anyone else.

Really I think it came down to JG being terrified to throw the ball down the middle. Fast routes where timing is even more important, and dude has a slow process. JJ and Callaway were just Mr. Fixits last year that made him look a little better and could out muscle dudes in the middle for a poorly thrown ball...of which there were many...

It would be great if we got him, I just don’t see it happening at this point in time. IMO, if Tennessee continues to be radio silent on the clustered mess in regards to if Pruitt is being retained or not we probably won’t get a kid like this from the portal. Regardless whatever all of us think or feel about keeping Pruitt, Tennessee is only hurting itself in the ability to recruit kids from the portal.

We are not radio silent. Fulmer announced that Pruitt would be leading us in Spring practice a couple of weeks ago. Remember?

That is meaningless now since UT has launched an investigation and there’s been zero word dude. I think Hubbs reported that UT has a law firm involved now so there is definitely something going on behind the scenes.

The statement came out after the investigation was launched. There’s your answer and it will remain in effect until it’s not.
Yeah, if only it worked that way in convincing kids to come from the portal. I’m here until I’m not, don’t pay attention to the investigation lol. That’s a reassuring pitch to players haha.

It’s only the fans who are promoting the instability of a HC. Nothing has come out from the Administration other than Pruitt will be our coach in 2021. How often should they announce Pruitt is staying , every week? I don’t like it that he is coming back. It shows you the administration and boosters cannot unite to do the right thing.

If you read my intitial post it had nothing to do with the fans. It has everything to do with UT saying the investigation is complete and Pruitt is clear of any wrong doing and will be the coach moving forward, until that happens the program can’t expect to get high level players from the portal. No really good player is going to transfer with that hanging over the program. Whether you like it or not UT has to make a statement for the players looking at UT, not the fans.

No one really is giving much credence that the investigation is anything serious that would create a situation where Pruitt leaves. My guess is the potential recruits are not paying a lot of intention to it either.

I won’t act like I know what is going on but the fact the Tennessee has employed the services of a law firm recently, BN has lawyered up the evidence from the outside looks like something is going on. I think it effects players in the portal coming to Tennessee more than recruits though. Last thing a transfer wants is to use their 1 free transfer just to enroll then have the coach they wanted to play for get fired. Recruits can be released from their NLI, like Brooks in the event it happens. If the university doesn’t release them they can just immediately hit the portal once at the university.

DWA wasn’t a generational talent, but the fact he was so marginal at UT was a warning sign many (myself included) disregarded. With Bailey we “discovered” that if you throw at them with a reasonable chance of completion AND room to move afterwards? They will resemble passable TE’s.

He didn’t throw the ball...good...or well. Whether he had a purpose beforehand may always remain a mystery.
