-247Did speak with Arik Gilbert and I think it is clear he wants to play WR on the next level. Any school would take him at WR that is still recruiting him in my opinion.
Talking with some folks today there, I think Alabama is the team I would CB today if I had to. He did tell me his ‘privately top team” on keeps changing. This is a lot further from a decision than I thought it was.
I dunno. They referred to Irv Smith as a TE and I think he got in somebody’s way maybe once in Tuscaloosa. This might have something to do with the court ruling that Jimmy Graham was a Tight End and not due WR money. They would do that multi-F thing where it could be an H-back or a true Y or even a flanker type. Then they’re all like “yeah you’re a slot receiver” but he’s just a stand up TE.-247
If he picks Bama, he’s a portal candidate year one, they aren’t going to play him at WR, not with that speed.
SimmonsGilbert has former teammates in Athens and Knoxville (Ramel Keyton at Tennessee and Azeez Ojulari at Georgia). His quarterback, Harrison Bailey, is committed to the Vols, too. Could that be a factor?
What it will likely come down to is which program can convince Gilbert that he will get the ball more in its offense. He looked to be Georgia’s to lose just a few months ago, but Tennessee has created more buzz as of late, with some thinking the in-state school is now trailing at least one school, if not a couple. This one has gotten much more interesting lately.
That's what I think as well. Feels like UT pitching WR made him more open to not going to UGA and Bama has started pushing WR as well. He's visited Bama a couple times this summer too I believe. Visited Clemson recently and they might be jumping on the WR bandwagon also.Chuck Manziel on Bill King Show this morning says it would be Bama if signing day was today. Vols gonna have to prove something on the field to get this one.
Chuck based this on talking to AG yesterday.
