I’ve parked in G17 on Lake Ave, as have several of my friends, the last several years. We all have them up this year because it has taken hours to get out of the garage. We have all complained to higher ups at UT. I have access to a G17 parking pass for UGA. Did anyone park in G17 for ETSU? If so has it gotten any better. I realize this is not a good sample because of the difference in the games but wondering if anyone who has parked there over the years can tell any difference this year.

It took forever. Literally an hour or longer

This is a chronic issue and many have complained to UT. I called campus police after our car moved one car length in 35 minutes. I tried calling the sheriff and the police departments and got no help. I called the UT police back and was basically told nothing can be done.

Took us a bit over an hour and half to not only get out, but to move. Heaven forbid someone have a medical emergency. Maybe it'll take a lawsuit to fix this. Somehow they were allowed to built the garage in between two one way streets, Lake and Terrace. The University and law enforcement do not care at all.

The answer is to use more personnel to allow a stream of vehicles up onto Cumberland or across Cumberland and stop traffic long enough on Volunteer Blvd to let Lake Avenue cars dump out onto Volunteer Blvd, then allow cars on Volunteer Blvd onto Joe Johnson Dr and keep them moving long enough to get cars down to Neyland Dr. They stop cars on Joe Johnson to let the Ag campus cars out and they don't empty Lake Ave onto Volunteer long enough. It's embarrassing that UT and local law enforcement are so damn inept and incapable of figuring this out.

I was basically yelled at by the law enforcement person there at 18th and Lake and said there's nothing he can do, but he was allowing one vehicle through the intersection at a time. No **** there is nothing you can do, but can you radio to your folks to get some damn help and that traffic hasn't moved in 1, 2 hours or more?

It's totally inexcusable. It's actually a major public safety issue.

If someone with the University reads this, PLEASE get this **** fixed. We are paying customers and at a minimum need our money back.

Note to self: Never park in G17 unless attending a post game gathering.
Right, but this shouldn't be the case. It is a fairly new parking garage and conveniently located to the stadium. The situation just needs to be fixed plain and simple. It really wouldn't take much to alleviate the problem it's just that no effort is being made. It's just bad business on UTs part

I parked in G17 for the Florida game last year and it was atrocious. A couple hours to get out. I would not have minded so much except it was a night game and we had to drive back to Nashville.

I also parked in C21 on white ave for another game and it was the exact same BS. 2 hour exit.

I don't think I'll ever park in a garage again, only lots. Hell I may even park in south Knoxville and walk over if it's gonna take that damn long to get out.

It's the sorry ass people in charge and law enforcement simply doesn't care. It's really as simple as letting tons of cars flow through Volunteer for several minutes all the way down Joe Johnson and right onto Neyland. After several minutes stop the traffic just be before Publix and for several minutes the the Ag campus folks go. Then stop the Ag campus folks and let Volunteer flow down Joe Johnson again. It really is that simple. 5 minute intervals. If you have enough law enforcement down on Neyland and Joe Johnson the **** can run like water. Knoxville law enforcement is more focused on showing you who's in charge rather than actually helping people.

I sooo agree with and appreciate this post. Every year or two we get a survey from the athletic department and I basically give them praise for almost everything other than the parking situation, and then I write a 7 page essay on the parking issues and offer solutions like you with how to fix.

Multiple times when exiting the G-17 or the other garage right next door, my wife has gotten out of the car and walked down to the exit to at least force everyone to zipper out of there. Once (the first time) she did it after asking a cop to please help and do something. He basically told her to pound sand, and that there was nothing he could do to help. Disgusted, she walked 20 feet from him and started helping the flow a little bit by at least forcing everyone to zipper out of there on the south exit. As he just stared at her with his arms crossed doing nothing. It's beyond infuriating.

We often grab a costco pizza before the game if we're not tailgating or doing it elsewhere and leave it in the car so we have dinner during the 2 hour exit from campus. Or once the game is over I literally run to the garages and get the car out on a street somewhere and just wait there for our carpool to catch up to the vehicle.

If anyone has a good contact (UTAD, police, etc.), I'm more than happy to join in e-mailing, calling, etc. to help out any way I can.
