Partying, drinking, passing out under a bush, waking up in a bathtub, etc are a little different that getting pumped at the hospital.
If OUR players are doing this??? Do you seriously think this is why UT has been subpar as of late?? Seriously, go to any college, anywhere... D-1 or whatever. Most of the athletes are drinking and partying!!! Get your head out of the sand. UT hasn't been that good due to lack of good players on the field, not the partying off of it.Just because people have been doing it for centuries doesn't mean that getting inTOXICated is any different than taking illegal drugs - except that it is legal (if your are over 21). I could go on and on about this kind of attitude, but people are just lucky when they don't die or have to go to the hospital when they do these sorts of things. And, do people really believe that his effort on the field is not usually affected by living a lifestyle like this.
I don't know about you, but I have been disappointed by his on-the-field play. Now, I think we have some clues as to why he has not been the all-american that he could have been (not saying he hasn't done some good things).
I know this is viewed differently by many, but I do not view this much differently than the "holdup" and gun possession issues that we have had lately. If our players are living these kinds of lifestyles (not just making a one-time mistake), then no wonder we are having troubles on the field/court.
Way to set a good example for the young guys Gerald! I hope you straighten up your act, and that this was just a one-time thing.
We get on these boards and sweat every comment by prospects, but what's the point if they just come here and party, and do things like this? It is just a waste of talent and a waste of a life and health. No way they can perform at the top levels when they are constantly doing this (drinking and staying up all night partying, etc.) I will shut up now, but it just disgusts me that people think it is no big deal! (No, I am not against having fun!!! Yes, I was young once!)

Since this is happening at all campuses, I suppose it evens the playing field to some extent. That doesn't make it a good thing, though... How many times have I heard: "Everybody's doing it!"? As if, even if true, that makes it ok.
Major FAIL!

No, not a major fail. You blamed UT's result on the field due to too much drinking, partying, etc. I doubt UT's players that party aren't more than the ratio compared to Florida's, Alabama's, etc.I am not stupid, and no I have not been on the campus watching young people lately. However, I have raised four children (one is about to turn 20), and I know a lot of stuff goes on. That does not mean that EVERY student or athlete is partying and passing out in various places on a regular basis, no matter what many people would have us believe.
Young people that are otherwise healthy have a good capacity to overcome the toxic effects of alcohol, but that does not mean that they will perform at top efficiency when they are living that lifestyle. I could give example after example.
What about the Clausen brother who fell off the balcony. I don't recall that he had a very good year after that. Was Tyler Smith living up to your expectations? How about (weed) Williams? Has the team done better since Tatum got back (not saying it is for sure his fault, but...)?

Get off the kids back. He is in college, he has somewhat of a life outside of football. Let it go. Everyone here got wasted in college and partied it up at times, or they had completely no life.
This is an Internet board, and I think I have a right to my opinion. The truth is: if he had to have his stomach pumped, he was in danger of Dying!!! That is not a life, that is a death. That means that the alcohol is toxic.
I for one, do not want him or other college students to go down this kind of path. Many of you are making this out as if it is no big deal. I beg to differ, and I say get off my back, and quit trying to trivialize something is a national tragedy. People are dying from many different aspect of these DRUGS.
Just because most people drink more "responsibly," does not mean that all will. And Again: No, everyone who had any fun in college did not get wasted on a regular basis. I did not, nor did most of the people I went to school with. I think it is a myth that is not true. Yes, many do drink in excess, but that is not anywhere near everyone.

Wah wah wah wah wah. Just because some people can't handle it doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with drinking. It's possible not only to drink responsibly, but to drink excessively responsibly. You sanctimonious Temperance Society types lost the final battle in 1933.
