Any more news on this? I was disappointed to hear that he had asked for one. I think he could help right away.

Yeah with half the games gone and the play of the current set of receivers I think I would rather have him for a full year at 100%. For a split second thought I thought he was returning KO's Saturday but realized it was Rogan.

Too bad the bumbling idiot calling the game said "I'm looking and I don't see a #41. He must be the mystery returner. Good return though mystery man."

I don't think there was a single time he named the right running back when calling our running plays (Foster...sorry that was Coker, Coker....sorry that was Hardesty, Hardesty....sorry that was Creer)

so it's ok to burn a year for Rogan just to get a couple of plays, but as far as Jones, redshirting is a good thing since half the years over? please, Phil just told us how much he was going to play before UGA and he never got in. The reality is that we have a slim chance to win the East and if GJ can help us he needs to play.

Rogan has been involved in more than "a couple of plays" since he's played in some capacity in 5 of our 6 games. At one point he was being strongly considered as an option at DB. As for the rest of it I kind of agree. If Jones can truly contribute this season I'm for playing him. Besides, if he's really as good as we all hope he is it's not like he's likely to stay four years anyway.

The situation for Rogan and Jones is very different. When you have a DB, it's vital to get as much experience as possible. Besides, we have no depth in the secondary and with a no-huddle offense, Jones will only see one or 2 passes his way anyways at the most per game. I think it's a wise decision.

very wise decision to redshirt Jones. I wanted to see him on the field as much as anyone but the season is half over and he has hardly played so, no need to waste a year of eligibility to play a half season.

the combination of being a true freshman and being behind in practice from injury is not a good one. Prob better that Gerald redshirts.

if he ask for a redshirt he must have plans to stay and play 4 years

You're always talking about "reality."

The "reality" is that Tennessee controls its own destiny in the East...something Florida and Georgia can't say for themselves.

And, though you've never seen Gerald Jones take a collegiate snap, what leads you to think that he makes Tennessee's chances at winning the East a more likely "reality?"

I think rex believes we drop another game and the gators win out. Gerald jones won't help us win the east this year, to far into the season. What you see now is what you will get from us, good enough or not.

I've never seen people go so crazy over a guy redshirting, who has yet to step foot on the field. We have guys that were rated higher than him that haven't played much or will redshirt too.

Look, you can look great in shorts over the summer and against 2-A HS opponents, but the reality is, we don't know how good Jones can be until he gets on the field during conference play.

It's waaaay to early to start getting scared about the NFL and how long Jones plans to be here.

^ Exactly. Most people haven't even seen him practice much less play a game.

I think we are putting the points on the board to win what is needed is moore D and having that said a redshirt at this time is a good thing.

Guys Before the injury he was playing great in practice.. i Guess UT doesnt have much of a Defense? He showed what he could do against the defense and he earned playing time.. The coaches know how good he is, so therefore it really doesnt matter what fans think... They know he is a playmaker and that is why they recruited and signed him.. If it wasnt for the hamstring he would be making plays right now..
