G Jones all but promises that Fulmer will be back next season

"All of us need to do better," he said. "It's all of our responsibilities: the players, the coaches, the coordinators, the head coach, managers, trainers, equipment guys, whoever."

It's about time whoever and the equipment guys started taking some of this heat. :eek:hmy:

Fulmer's biggest criticism should lie in the hiring of Dave Clawson as the OC. The defense has been decent this year, but the Clawfense has been a huge joke. Clawson has done everything but make calls to put the ball in the hands of playmakers. Whether a bad hire has enough merit to result in firing the head coach is arguable, but IMO in this case it does.

Fulmer did not allow Clawson to open up the starting QB job in the spring despite the fact that Crompton appeared incapable of making the reads neccessary to execute the offensive system. Stephens has not had enough practice reps with first team to have mastered the system, assuming his can run this offense. Due to these and other factors I do not think we have really seen Clawson's offense but rather some hybrid Fulmer/Clawson offense that just doesn't work. I won't be disappointed if the new head coach keeps Clawson for a season just to see what he can do.

Gerald Jones said that talk about Fulmer being fired made him laugh, and that Fulmer is Tennessee football.

That shows you how much GJ knows about Tennessee football.

Until the o-line figures out how to block. Clawfense or whatever you want to call it will be a failure. Any OC would fail behind this line and a qb that will be making his third career start. The deck is staked against dave clawson. Add in the fact phil still micromanages the offense and it doesn't have a prayer to succeed.

I would resign before it gets real ugly if i were dave. He might find himself under a bus.

Do you think DC is surprised at the QB talent level at UT right now? He seems genuinely surprised that we don't have a QB that can master his offense. I know I would be if I were coming from his coaching level.

Yeah, i'd say he got a big dose of reality when he realized he had no QB. He really looks clueless in the plays he's calling though. The flip flopping of the line has hurt some to i'd say. But this line is charmin soft so putting any blame for that at clawson's feet would be unfair.

It's likely he would hang around if we hired a defensive guy, but we bring in an offensive type he DC is gone.

We keep the current guy and there's a reasonable chance that DC is gone.

The UT trustees do not control the UTAD. It is a self governing body. That was by design so the UT trustees would not meddle in the UTAD. It works all too well as the UTAD is full of people thay cannot get rid of, so they elevate them to UTAD administraive positions with huge retirement benefits. My dad is a retired UT professor and has cpmplained about that situation for years.

You're wrong on this one, the trustees DO the hiring and firing. They listen to the recomendation of the AD, then take a vote. I was told this last week by a former trustee.

The lovefest with Gerald Jones intrigues me. For one, he has never really had that break-out, national headline grabbing game. His stats arent very impressive and didnt he call out the fans a couple of weeks ago, or was that Ayers? I forget.

I have thought the same thing the past three games. He hasn't separated from anyone once he gets the ball and also doesn't seem to make anyone miss either. Frankly he doesn't look like he has any special quickness. I was thinking maybe he has a nagging leg injury or something keeping him from showing that explosion reputation that precedes him. Is he hurt?

Look, Gerald Jones has the right attitude, but he did not grow up a Tennessee fan nor did he grow up in the South.

I don't think he fully grasps what TWO losing seasons in four years at Tennessee means to the millions of fans in the Big Orange Nation. 7-5 might be acceptable at Okie St where Gerald grew up, but this is TENNESSEE.

G. Jones has made enough noise in the press this year. I would like for him to just be quiet and play. Also he can do me a favor and get some smaller shoulder pads those things look like gull wings.:)

to all of you who think you know so much from the outside looking in, I would like to say Gerald is doing exactly what he should be doing. Staying true to his team. Everytime something doesn't go the way you all believe it should you yell fire someone or sit that player down. Please consider that they are human. You are the ones who try to immoralize the players. I am a parent and I like reading these post but I will tell you that unless you know what you are speaking about just chill with the negativity. Afterall, if they start winning all of you will try to jump back on the band wagon. Have a good day!!!! Much love:p

the implication that they don't is garbage and likely spoken from someone who hasn't spent a lot of time around that caliber of athlete. Competitive people work very hard.
Well if what we see on the field is their 110% effort then our high recruiting budget is incredibly mispent.

Add the whole smokin' a doobie with recruits thing and what you have is a player that fans fawn over because of his athletic abilities, not his actual production. he is a legend in East Tennessee and nowhere else.

Eh, Oklahoma high schools too.

You can defend him all you want and make fun of posters for it - but some of the things he's come out and said really confuse me as to what the point in saying it was. I didn't really mind anything he's said... but the "Fulmer is Tennessee football" comment to me was just jaw dropping if he really believes that.
