If those are the starters are coaches have failed in the development of jack jones one of the few linemen that played tough

I've seen the mean streak and nastiness from Jones and Wiesman.

The problem is that usually it was in the finishing of plays isn't at the initial point of attack. Whether that's due to coaching, lack of S&C development, scheme, or some combination of the three is what's not clear.

Some on here who know more about football than I do have commented that at times it seems our run plays don't seem to be drawn up for OL to blow guys off the LOS as much as they seem to be drawn up for our guys to occupy defenders.

Idk what the issue is TBH. But I don't think it's a lack of a mean streak from guys like Jones and Wiesman.

I mentioned those two by name only because I remembered that trait was in their HS scouting reports. But the whole line has seemed lethargic at times. Almost nice about hitting someone. Part of that elusive issue might have been blocking for a prima donna, but it still reflects on them. If you have that mean streak, you take your anger out on the guy across from you during the game. And there are old school ways of handling prima donnas. What happens when you mix a jock strap and Atomic Balm?

Hit like a bull, and prove you have a nasty streak. It's football, not Mother May I. You may hate the guy running behind you, but you hate the guy in the different colored jersey much more.

I'd have Richmond and Smith at tackle, Robertson and Hall at gaurd, and Jones at center.

We will see. But this is Robertson's last year. You talking 2017 or 2018? Thomas will still be in there somewhere this season.

past 2017 what do u think will pan out of the offensive line

my prediction for 2018

LT- richmond( rs JR)
LG- boulware(rs JR)
c- jones (sr)
rg- hall (sr)
RT- smith (soph)

mays will be a freshman backing up either tackle spot
tatum will be depth at tackle
locklear back up center
moseley guard depth
ryan johnson maybe guard depth?

I'd rather Jones replace Thomas at center this year, would improve things imo.

Thomas was playing hurt in game 1, and did not get any less banged up as last season went. I think most got mad at him against Appy State. And if you are playing center and get a false start, it is going to bring anger.

KB, you can hate on him if you want, but he and Robertson was two of the players who had to step up and lead long before they threw their first empty toothpaste tubes in their dorm room trash cans. I am not going to forget that.

Not hating on Thomas, just don't think what he's shown in 3 years is good enough. I think Jack Jones is tougher, is more physical and would be a better option for us.

As far as he and Robertson being forced into action as freshmen, before they were ready, I agree with you 100%....especially wasn't fair to Thomas who was playing out of position. But I'm not talking about that, I'm referencing what I've seen the last 2 years...actually, just looking at last year really. Jmo. I'd like to see Jones beat him out this year and I think we'd see a noticeable improvement in our OL play if he does.

Opinions are just that, opinions. But IMO Thomas will be all-SEC this season and get drafted.

I believe Smith will start out as a guard and work his way to tackle. As long as Hall stays healthy, he will be RT.

For 2017: I expect Richmond, Robertson, Thomas, Jones, Hall with Smith/incoming Freshman and Tatum/any others who played last season getting much needed Redshirts...unless they are really pushing for starting time.

Kendrick will get plenty of snaps as the first backup at OT. Same for Boulware at Guard. Not sure what to expect from Austin Sanders and all of the other OL (mostly walk-ons).

Kendrick starts at RT and Sanders is no longer a part of the team

Man they need to update those rosters UTSPORTS & ESPN. No big loss on Sanders though.

They have all the Freshman from last year listed as Sophomores. I thought Tatum was the only one to burn his in the Alabama game. Anyone know for sure?

Wells already stated that Smith will start out in the LT position.

We all thought Richmond would start day 1 and he got red shirted and had a hard time during the first half of the season he picked it up a little at the end but there is no sure thing.

Mays is no Richmond. Mays is ready right now.
Those who thought Richmond would start right away were greatly misinformed.

Sanders is still on the team.
Other freshman like Niehaus, Brooks etc. should be listed as red shirt freshmen. Tatum is a sophmore. IMO, Tatum would be a good candidate to red shirt this year. He is way too lean, unless he makes a big jump this winter and spring.

Sanders is still on scholarship through May but is not part of the team

Sanders is still on the roster, for now.

Kendrick's future is going to depend on how quick he can recover from injury. If he misses Spring and a lot of lower body work under Rock, then yes he could get passed.

Looks like an all star line-up.

Many names from last year. We've been waiting for these guys to be "all stars" for a while now. Maybe Rock can morph them into tough minded, mean SOBs but I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, those names are more of the same.

I seriously doubt that. Perhaps he gets drafted late.....I don't think there's any way he's an all-sec player after 2017. Jmo.

I don't really see it either, unless his injuries in 2016 were much worse than we were led to believe.

He's looked good when we move him around and let him block smaller guys out in space. He hasn't faired as well against the better DTs he's faced though. Especially in pass protection.

Hopefully the light comes on for him and he becomes a more complete player in year 4 with the coaching change and all his experience thus far.

Guys with his combination of size, length, smarts, and ability to move are rare. He checks every box except physical strength. Thankfully for him that is one thing that can be gained. This offseason with new S&C coach will be huge for him.
