my prediction for 2018

LT- richmond( rs JR)
LG- boulware(rs JR)
c- jones (sr)
rg- hall (sr)
RT- smith (soph)

mays will be a freshman backing up either tackle spot
tatum will be depth at tackle
locklear back up center
moseley guard depth

First of all, Moseley is a CB. Mosley is a lineman.

Second, I would rather worry about 2018 in 2018. In that time DL recruits and TEs could move to OL. And some might transfer.

But I will say this, until Richmond shows me more? I assume Smith is a LT, and Hall is the RT. Maybe Tatum is the RG. Drew needs to step up this spring.

I will say that Richmond progressed through the season and was showing more promise at the end of the year. I agree that he needs to continue improving and take a big step forward this spring, but it was nice to see the improvement. He was an elite prospect and needs to play like one. We cannot afford anymore busts.

Also, supposedly Wells was working one-on-one with Richmond towards the end of the season. If he can help improve our entire OL and get them playing to a higher standard then he will turn out to be a great upgrade and hire.

Oh I agree, and had heard about Wells work with him. But there have been several OL recruits in the Jones era who were reputed to have a "nasty mean streak", Weisman and Jack Jones to mention 2. Have you seen it? Me either. And I blamed Mahoney for that.

I want our line to hit like bulls being run through the streets. When a bull hits an idiot daring to run in front of him, he isn't nice about it. That is what I hope to see this year. And if Drew Richmond is leading the charge? So much the better.

Agreed. It never seemed like our OL won the battle at the line of scrimmage. They got pushed around a lot and at times seemed to lack fundamentals. Even when our RBs broke a big run it was mostly from a hole created by one lineman and the RB's evasive action, not a complete push as a unit. I do believe they got better as the year went on too though. However, Mahoney had been here for 4 years and there was no excuse for the drop off and lack of consistency. Now we are building quality depth and will have upperclassman across the line with some star new comers sprinkled in the OL.

Mays will start immediately.

IMO If he's playing immediately, it will likely mean that either a few of our OTs like Richmond and Tatum haven't panned out or that he's such a beast and a mauler out of the gate they plug him in at OG

I've seen the mean streak and nastiness from Jones and Wiesman.

The problem is that usually it was in the finishing of plays isn't at the initial point of attack. Whether that's due to coaching, lack of S&C development, scheme, or some combination of the three is what's not clear.

Some on here who know more about football than I do have commented that at times it seems our run plays don't seem to be drawn up for OL to blow guys off the LOS as much as they seem to be drawn up for our guys to occupy defenders.

Idk what the issue is TBH. But I don't think it's a lack of a mean streak from guys like Jones and Wiesman.

I'd have Richmond and Smith at tackle, Robertson and Hall at gaurd, and Jones at center.

And the winner for the most random off season thread goes to.............

Why? Because its positive?

Smith, Mays, and Richmond are all really highly rated 4 and 5 star in state guys. The OL going forward should be a really strong point of this team. Butch has done a really great job considering we barely had an OL 2 years ago.

Could see Tatum and Jones redshirt this year barring injuries from starters. Jones could then step in for Thomas.

Mays will start immediately.

We all thought Richmond would start day 1 and he got red shirted and had a hard time during the first half of the season he picked it up a little at the end but there is no sure thing.

On paper it looks incredible, however given our inability to coach OL men up, it could be an all bust team.

Oh good grief! They just sacked the O Line coach you are gripping about, and added a stud S&C coach. Can't you quit your bichin and give the new guys the benefit of the doubt at least until spring practice?
