Alvin Kamara = Cordarrelle Patterson

Successful Year = Gone

The better they are, the quicker they go.

Yeah...

And then every once in a while a Peyton shows up and sticks around anyway, becoming even more beloved to the Tennessee fan base than he already was, converting himself into a true Vols Legend.

Go Peyton! Go Vols!

I believe if we only take 1 back in the next cycle then CBJ. Will have no problem pulling a 5 star back in 17. These kids aren't stupid and they do their homework. We will be coming off of back to back big bowl games and be a top 25 team with a good chance to take the east and perhaps the SEC title every year. Butch is landing multiple 4 star offensive linemen and the back will look at a good opportunity for early playing time at an SEC contender. We may even land a pair of 5s or a 5 and a couple high 4 stars. Our VOLS are rising like a rocket and the whole nation has taken notice already. The chance to come in and compete for the starting job as a running back here will be too good to pass up IMO. GBO VFL HUBANegas

I seriously doubt we will have trouble recruiting talent to positions of need any time in the near future. It's all about putting that talent to work on the field now

Kamara's likely to be a one and done, if he has a good year and stays healthy. RBs have a shorter shelf life and if they're talented enough, they want to get paid as soon as possible. Staying and risking injury can be very costly.

If that's the case we need a few really good rbs next class

I get that Kamara could be a one and done, but I'd imagine he's here two years. Last year we all thought VP would be a one and done, but the truth is that to be a one and done he'll need to have the best season we've seen from a running back in about a decade. Between our OL and Hurd splitting carries, I'm not so sure we see that this season.

If Kamara leaves early, then we'll likely have had such a good season that we'll have 5* RBs lining up to take his spot anyway.

It was an amazing thing... but there aren't that many Peytons. Eric Berry would have loved to stay for his senior year, but he felt like he needed to make the money for his family. Leaving early is all about the $$$ and more often than not, it's driven by necessity and practicality more than greed, IMO.

Lucky for us that Dobbs wants that degree and will stick all four years. Sux he didn't RS his freshman year.

I think the struggles his freshman year helped Dobbs improve his sophomore year...if he ends up great, you can't go around worrying and fretting about what might of been. Who knows? :dunno:

Kelly is much better than people are giving him credit for. Good size and acceleration as well as tackle breaking ability,

They'll figure that out when camp starts.

Him and Micah Abernathy are two players that will really surprise at their respective positions.

Perhaps. But another year of conditioning, improving his skill set and learning the playbook would have been beneficial. And he wants to complete the five-year BS/MS program, so it would have been better all around, IMO. But we have solid options behind him and I'm sure we'll help him cover his fifth year of academics in some capacity, so it's all good.

Hope he comes in and impresses. Would ease a lot of worries about the future at the RB position.

You think he didn't " know the playbook"? And after playing his freshman year, he beasted out last offseason! I think that was inspired by his playing time and firsthand awareness of what he needed to bring out on the field. I don't think it would have been such a dramatic transformation sans playing time. As far as the 5th year? We have a VFL program...he is good. :)

I think a RS would have been better all around. We can agree to disagree on this one.
