Will the SEC expand to 16 teams in the next few years?

Not voting. I know it will, but I am 100% against it. I despise Texas a,m for starting this crap. Hope they get the dog shat beat out of the for years to come. Welcome to the SEC suckas.

Hey Goat, I don't disagree with your opine on expansion, however, we are only 1 team bigger now than when the SEC was established. I don't fault TxAM, however, I think getting Mizou was absolutely STUPID. With the rumors being that FL, SC, and GA were against adding a 2nd instate team from their respective states, I would have invited all three to leave the SEC and enjoy playing in either the ACC or Big Least and sharing those revenues. I think we should boot Mizou (not possible or probable) and pick up 3 (yes that makes 16 but its coming) of the VT, Clemson, FL St, NC, NCSt, or Duke. I had heard that they were looking for 4 4 team divisions. God knows how that will work out. All in the master plan for a playoff between conference champs IMO.

Edit: Add GT into that group too.

For a couple of years or more I have predicted a football oriented division that is not NCAA controlled. It will consist of 4 conferences of 16 teams each. Like European futbol, teams will move up/down between the top level and the 2nd tier. The 2nd tier will consist of the "mid-majors" and the top of the FCS schools (Ga Southern, Furman, etc). Today, it looks like the SEC, Big 12, Big "10", and PAC will be the basis for the 4 divisions. They will poach the Big East, ACC, and Notre Dame. There might even be some movement between them (ie, A&M back to their geography). Clemson, FSU, NC, Miami, Syracuse, and a few others will be looking for a football home in the near future. ... the very near future!

Interesting, velly interesting.....

Revenue for extra games means if University Presidents want it, then it will happen. AA will go along with Presidents.

No he makes a fair point. The rule was already in place for a championship game before the SEC expanded to 12 games (it was used for division 3 I believe), not something created because of the move.

Anything done would have to involve new rules petitioned for and then created. And a single game's worth of money doesnt mean the presidents - who still view themselves as academic institutions first and foremost - are going to flock in droves to vote yes (although cant say I'm overly sure this is their matter for a vote either)

NCST
Va Tech
UVA
Maryland

I think these would be the four targeted, realistic teams. We would have four pods, play 9 SEC games, and a +1 SEC tournament (after the NCAA changes that rule for more tournament games).

SEC North:
-Virginia (or Tech)
-Tennessee
-Kentucky
-Vanderbilt

SEC East:
-NC State
-South Carolina
-Georgia
-Florida

SEC Central:
-Alabama
-Auburn
-Mississippi St
-Ole Miss

SEC West:
-Arkansas
-LSU
-Missouri
-Texas A&M

Would prefer VT and UNC as well. But I am OK with VT and NCSU. I am sure NCSU wants out from under UNC's shadow. The prospects of having Maryland - not so much.

I like the SEC having a 16 team super conference. Control a quarter of the US and field at least one NC team every year in either football or basketball, or both!

I think it will end up happening but I really hope it does not.. Don't want to lose the rivalry games

Appreciate your point of view on the matter, I'm just majorly opposed to any an all expansion.

Not trying to pick a fight, but A&M wouldn't have had anywhere to go if the SEC wasn't interested. I appreciate that you were against expansion, and I would be willing to bet that there is a significant contingent that was and is opposed to expansion. Personally, I think this is what was going to be necessary to prompt significant changes from the NCAA in the format of post-season play and methods of scheduling. I wouldn't be shocked if in fifteen years there were only six conferences at the highest Division-1 level (no longer called FBS due to a sixteen team playoff). I know this isn't a popular opinion, and I'm well aware that this is a controversial idea, but I think it would provide an interesting opportunity to undo some of the business ideals that have permeated into collegiate athletics.

I think Clemson would be a great addition to SEC but rumors are saying Big 12 . I also think Virginia Tech would be great too.

First of all, im 100% against these teams coming in and diluting our SEC tradition.

If it has to be done, Ive said FSU and Clemson from the beginning. Both fit the fabric of the SEC.

Also i would be fine with Georgia Tech since they were once in the SEC.

FSU would be good and make SEC more difficult . I don't see Florida giving them a vote to let them join. FSU would be nice though

Expansion is going to happen, no matter how I vote,,,,,, I see it as both positive and negative... I believe it will in time will force the NCAA to go to a playoff system... that is the positive...... I also believe we lose our own identity as a conference and that is a BIG Negative

None of these would happen. Not only do they provide nothing, as far as markets are concerned, but the residing SEC members would vote no for them. All four would vote no for any of these teams.

FSU
Clemson
Ga Tech
Louisville

The SEC is already NFL jr., might as well expand to 16 teams to complete the likeness. I think we'll see possibly one of the following combos:

Va. Tech and UNC
NCST and Clemson (unless Spurrier/USC blocks it)
NVST and UMd
NCT and Va

Who are they?

Does Miami want to go where VT goes due to their rivalry? Just a question. I know they jumped ship from the Big lEast together.

Not really no.

VT to the ACC was much more of a "had wanted to become a member of the ACC (for a while now)" move than a "we want to follow Miami wherever it goes" one

Unless Pitt and Syracuse are rivals, no one so far has really made the conference jump/move based on the "our rival is leaving and we want to follow them" idea that's gotten thrown around

When VT left for the ACC, our motive was to not get left behind in a watered down conference, have schools that are closer for travel reasons, and increase our academic reputation.

Now, we are at the point that our football program has reached our ceiling on what we can do in our current conference. The ACC's first focus will always be basketball and that is what will ultimately be the demise of the conference.

I'm just hoping Florida State leaves to get the whole ball rolling because as a fanbase, we are all tired of the ACC. Imagine having Duke, Wake Forest, and Boston College in your stadium on a consistent basis instead of Alabama, LSU, Florida etc. It is amazing that we continue to sell out our stadium with a bunch of duds coming into Lane on Saturdays.

Watching an ACC game on TV is even boring. Seems VT and Clemson maybe fsu and somewhat miami are fired up. I feel like everyone at ACC games are sitting in church pews. Not a first hand experience though.
