OMG! Yep. Did it a few times. Also remember when we upgraded from rotary to push button. And then a long cord on the hand set so you could have a private convo.
Am I the only one that thought “genius” when I found out the engineers Bell Labs used the “time delay” built into the rotary dial to track the switching so that as you entered the last number it had narrowed down the phone to 1 of 10?
 
I don't know but I used to dial the rotary phone like morse code. Just tap the receiver buttons rapidly the number of times for the number. 10 taps for 0.

You got me on that one. I just aimed to be the fastest rotary dialer in the county. Our company owner probably had the one where you pick up the ear piece, and hollar at Sarah to get you the mayor.
