Well, in Star Trek the circles you stand on in the transporter room to be beamed elsewhere are laid out in a circle, but when people shimmer into place in their new spot, they're not standing in a circle. One would think that they should rematerialize in the same pattern they stood in, lest Uhura's left arm winds up growing out of Sulu's chest or some similar awkwardness.Yeah, still don't get it.
