I used to build custom homes. I had a lady I was building for call me at 10pm to ask what i thought about "xxx red" color for their master bed room.
We built a staircase with all oak( treads, risers, spindles, etc). She decided she didn't like that and wanted to paint the risers a white cream color which is traditional. When she wallked in and saw the staircase she said,"that doesn't look the way I thought it would".
The next day her husband ask me to meet him at the house, and said" whatever my wife wants in the house is what we are going to do". " I've been divorced once, and I'm not going to get divorced again!" So the painters removed the white paint from the risers which is not easy on a porous wood like oak.
She didn't like the design of the bathroom on the plans so after the plumbing and electric were roughed in she brought in drawings of what she wanted. We changed everything including a installed window. The house had a brick exterior so the masons had to remove brick and rebrick where the window was. After everything was done she said she wasn't happy, and wanted to go back to the original plans. So we basically remodeled her bathroom.
I always told people to make changes if they wanted to, otherwise they might always think about what they would have liked better.
But, she was a nice lady, and every woman I worked with was decent. I've heard it expressed as a bird building it's nest, and most men just want to know "how much will it cost to heat?"
