All our rivals have big in state rivalries with good teams. Florida has FSU, Alabama has Auburn, Georgia has Georgia Tech, even South Carolina has Clemson. Hard for us to be considered their biggest rival when there's someone right down the road fighting for state bragging rights.
Tennessee lost that once Gen. Neyland took care of the "Vanderbilt problem." I'll say this for Gen. Neyland, when he fixes something, it stays fixed:salute:

I see his reasoning but don't agree.

We consider Alabama our biggest rival, but Alabama considers Auburn their biggest rival. Is UT a historically mediocre program? No way.

This statement could also be turned on us because Alabama's biggest rival is Auburn

No it cant....we have dominated Bamer and beat them plenty of times and vice versa. That makes it a rivalry! We are both historic programs with a long winning tradition with lots of hate. If you have ever been to bamer you know the majority hate us way more than Auburn, and just because we are going through our struggles now it doesnt change anything. They just came out of theres and now we are coming out of ours.

Think how much different that is than us and KY! That is what the poster was pointing out. Plus, even if it was true, it is possible to have a rivalry with someone who is not necessarily your main rival or their main rival. For instance, us and Florida while Bamer was down for so long. Most of us still considered Bamer our biggest rivalry but it didnt make the UT/Florida games any less of a rivalry.

The alabama vs ut rivalry has been a rivalry of long wins put together by each team for about the last 20 years. They win 4 in a row then we win 4 in a row. It has not gone back and forth very often. This has caused it to be a little unusual. When we have been good they have been bad and vice versa. Both teams have not really played since the Stallings era at the top of their game at the same time.

Florida on the hand has owned us since Spurrier. I do believe this is about to shift big time though and florida is done.

I think you are right. Florida has lost its identity.

The difference is that Tennessee has been more successful than Auburn and Georgia. We're "second banana" only out of geographic circumstance. With UK, it's only because they're terrible. If they were a powerhouse, they'd probably be our biggest rival, too.

What happened to the beer barrel?

Tn got tired of loading it on the plane for the trip, only to turn around and load it back on the plane to bring it back home.So th ky AD just said it was probably a good ideal just to leave it in knoxville.

The UT and Flordia rivalry has lost alot because Spurrier is no longer at at Fla. He was why it was such a heated rivalry in the 90's.

We are nobodies biggest rival. Period. Everybody else has an in-state school to be rivals with we don't. Kentucky is not a rivalry.

There's some bad logic at play here. Just because we do not view someone as a rival does not mean that we are not that team's biggest rival.

Uhh not true. Based on their own players comments this year, Tennessee is the biggest rivalry for Alabama fans. Supposedly they hate us more than anyone else. I'm not sure it has to do with the history of the game or there perceived backstabbing by Phillip Fulmer.

I feel like Bama views Auburn a lot like we view UK, granted that rivalry is more competitive than our UK rivalry but make no mistake Bama has dominated that series. Tennessee and Alabama are the two winningest programs in the SEC and have more combined championships than just about any other two teams in the country... that being said both programs consider the other their biggest rival.

Yes, but in order for it to be a real rivalry, don't both teams have to think it is one? We don't have that relationship with any school. We hate Bama, Florida, and Georgia above all else. Bama hates Auburn more than us. Florida hates Miami, FSU, AND Georgia more than us. Georgia hates Florida and Georgia Tech more than us. Kentucky is the only school that loathes us about all others and that is simply because we have beat them 26 years in a row. We do not view them in the same light.

Almost all the longtime Bama fans I know feel that Tennessee is their biggest historical rival but Auburn is the team they want to beat the most because if they don't, they have to hear about it for the next 364 days. I found it curious that during Bear Bryant's time in Tusca-loser he delegated the majority of the gameplanning to his assistant coaches... even the Auburn game. The Tennessee game he planned for himself. 'Nuff said.

I think Alabama is our biggest rival. However, the SEC is week after week of rivalries.

And this is what makes the SEC such a great conference. We all travel to each others' stadiums to revel in the win or cry about the loss... but always there is great sportsmanship (except in Gainesville anyway..) Can you imagine how much of a non-deal the Big East is gonna have with TCU? As much as I sometimes think Slive is an idiot, he does know how to keep the SEC great and more importantly, relevant. I'm glad he didn't really make any kind of push to get Texas or Texas tech or any other school. We are great just like we are.....

The $$$$$$ is a lot better nowadays with the CG and all but I just liked it a LOT better before USCjr and Arkansas joined up and split the conference... I miss playing Auburn every year and quite honestly... until this year USCjr didn't really deserve to be a part of the SEC. At least Arkansas has SOME sort of pedigree.... Sort of....
