One prime example of how a program is average at best is that your biggest rival doesn't consider you their biggest rival because you're not worthy of that respect. That's certainly the case with UK and UT. UT sees Alabama as their biggest football rival. UK is little more than an afterthought to UT.

Reminds me of an interviewer who asked Andy Roddick about his rivalry with Roger Federer. Roddick smiled and said he didn't consider it a rivalry because you had to win every now and then to have a rivalry.

A) This is Funny.
B) This is also True.

I see his reasoning but don't agree.

We consider Alabama our biggest rival, but Alabama considers Auburn their biggest rival. Is UT a historically mediocre program? No way.

What is really sad is with that type of thinking....that makes Vandy more of a rival game than the Wimpcats......actually that is kind of funny too.

I find it funny, but I agree with Milo. We aren't really on the radar of our "biggest" rivals. I think that Florida hates Florida State much more than us, and Alabama has the Iron Bowl. Vandy and Kentucky are considered rivalry games by some...but we just typically chalk them up to late season wins.

And just think, poor clueless Vandy still considers UT to be their biggest rival...How sad

This isn't necessarily true. I know plenty of Bama fans that hate us more than Auburn.

I personally hate Florida more than Alabama..very, very, very, VERY slight edge, but still hate them more.

I think it has more to do with the fan bases..you can actually find a few respectable Bama fans here and there.

But finding decent Florida fans is like trying to find a bright spot on Vandy's football team.

That's because they have above average teams in state. Simple as that. If Vandy was consistently on our same level I think it would be one of the top 3 games a year. There just isn't the recent history (after the general) like Bama/AU or UF/FSU

A large portion of bammers do consider tn to be their biggest rival. Also, it's still a huge rivalry to both teams. Same with Florida. Yea we've lost a lot to both lately, but tn is a huge game to both. For proof, look no further than UM posting lane kiffin quotes all over the gator locker room. So, basically, tn may not be Florida's or bama's BIGGEST rival, but both still consider it a huge rivalry and big portions of both fan bases do consider it to be the biggest. To the vols, UK is expected to be a gimme win every year. We don't care about that game. That's the difference, IMO.

No thinking about it. Definitely would be.

It wasn't always that way. Alabama and Auburn didn't even play until the late 1940s. Auburn wasn't a serious rival to Alabama until Shug Jordan got Auburn's program going in the 1950s. In the first several years that the series was resumed, Auburn wasn't good enough to be Alabama's top rival.

From 1928 until that happened, Tennessee was Alabama's biggest rival. Ironically, the opposite wasn't always the case. Kentucky and Vanderbilt were good teams back then, and at least as important to UT as rivalry games.

Times change. Tennessee and Georgia were never rivals until the 1990s. Neither were Tennessee and Florida. Even when we played them, the games were almost never relevant.

We don't consider UK a rival in football because there is no Tennessee fan under 30 who can even remember UT losing to them. We do in basketball because the schools actually compete.

You may be right, but I see us being bigger rivals to UA than UF...though that doesn't make a ton of sense considering the east vs. west. I suppose I just see UF looking very down their nose at UT, though they have no history, just a great run in the last 20-30 years.

I agree. Florida fans are split on fsu, uga, and tn; but large portions of the fan base consider each to be the biggest. Most go with fsu, then there's slightly more that would say uga than tn. I think with bama, it's like 55-45 auburn to tn. JMO
