After hearing that ESPN would be bringing College GameDay to College Station this week, I wondered how long it had been since Tennessee had garnered this much interest from the merry ESPN crew. Note that of what will be 6 College GameDays this season, Tennessee will have been involved in 3, with a real possibility at a fourth if we win (UNC/Miami, OSU/Wisconsin, and Arkansas/Ole Miss being other good games), a fifth in the SEC Championship game if we make it there, and more interesting possibilities after that.
Before this year, the last time College GameDay showed up at a Tennessee game was the 2012 Florida game. Before that, we have to go all the way back to 2006.
Prior to this season, College GameDay has never been at a game featuring Tennessee more than twice in a season.
College GameDay was a regular of sorts at the Florida game each year in the late 90s and early 2000s. Also a regular at those games back then? Florida victories. Strangely, GameDay sat out the 1998, 2003, and 2004 games (all Tennessee victories). As for this year, granted, it wouldn't have mattered if we were total garbage leading into Bristol--they'd have showed up anyway. Still, if we managed to keep on winning, we'd be looking at some kind of decent possibility of having College GameDay show up at half of our games. I didn't scour too thoroughly, but the most appearances for any one team in any season looks to be a ton tied at 4, but that almost always includes some sort of conference championship game and/or NC game.
