SEC Reportedly Weighing Consequences for Fans Storming the Football Field | Rocky Top Insider

Despite SEC policies in place that present SEC programs with increasing fines as a consequence of storming the field/court, the SEC is reportedly looking to find a new solution.

Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde reports the Southeastern Conference’s event safety group is working to figure out solutions, or consequences, for programs that allow fans to rush the field.

One proposal is that a program guilty of rushing the field would potentially lose a home game as a consequence for doing so. The SEC currently gives out fines up to six digits for rushing the field but seems to be looking for something more impactful with the SEC program’s ability to just simply pay the fine.
Sounds like they only mentioned safety concerns to justify "SOMEONE" cough cough (little Nicki) being butt hurt. Far as I'm concerned once a fan leaves their seat and goes to the field their safety is in their own hands. This is something that has been going on since the beginning of the sport. I could be wrong but I don't recall anyone dying. They should just leave this topic alone. This is one of those things that draws fans to college football. If they want to fine a team ok but to take away home games or forfeit is bs. It's also not as easy as they're making it sound especially when the politics in all this comes to a head. We're about to get a new schedule format. So what happens if you storm the field vs an opponent that you don't play every year?? Or 5 to 10,000 of our closest friends storms the field on the road?? Imagine having to forfeit last year's game. Do we really think the SEC would shoot itself in the foot by eliminating a top 5 undefeated natty contender?? Heck no

I hope the SEC attaches guidelines on how to stop several thousand people from hopping a wall and entering a field. Short of erecting 12' tall fences around the perimeter of the field like a lot of soccer stadiums, you're not going to be able to have a 100% foolproof way of stopping it.
Even with that it only takes 2 minutes to cut a link out that fence. We've already seen the type of miscellaneous items our crowd brings into the stadium

Got a marketing idea, for $20 pregame, $30 after halftime fans can purchase an unlimited number of “postgame” field passes. All the fans would then be on the field legitimately avoiding any fines or penalties

This is reason #5002 that the sec needs to be pulled out of Birmingham. Put it in New York or Kentucky where no one cares about college football

You know what's funny, I set beside the tunnel to the visitor locker room and when we rushed the field the players were actually safer than if we hadn't. There's always several bozos that have to over the top heckle the opposing team and coaches and every once and a while somebody will drop something. Not for BAMA, I don't think as single thing was said as they rushed off the field.
And yes if we beat UGA, I'll be helping people across the wall and may drop down myself......
Hell yeh

Dumb idea - but if it goes forward - UT storming the field last year after 'Bama will go down as the "last great storming of the field" so I'll be OK with that.
