I thought they had a good relationship? I believe they regularly sit together at St John's Episcopal. Why do people think that by naming Fulmer as AD that it in any way hamstrings Haslam's influence over UT athletics? Money talks. Unless he goes bankrupt, I don't see how his influence is going to be eliminated.

The other choice considered to replace Currie per people on campus was Reid Sigmon, Currie’s No. 2 and chief lieutenant. Multiple sources said that Sigmon was backed by Jimmy Haslam while Fulmer possessed resounding support among other constituencies, including boosters John ‘Thunder’ Thornton and Charlie Anderson.

They may indeed be friendly. Just speculation, but I think Haslam knows Fulmer won't be a puppet. Haslam cares about TN and his legacy too much to let Haslam ruin it.

You mean Fulmer cares? And yes, he does. Fulmer may be a lot of things, but he is UT first.

Yes, that is pure speculation. I don't see any facts which back that up

Which boosters do you think could have stopped him from being fired or at least had to sign off on it? I suspect that would leave a bad taste in CPF's mouth.

Thornton was pissed when Fulmer was fired. There's been division between Haslam, Anderson, and Thornton for a while. Haslam was the major contributor to Phil losing his job. Now Phil is a political animal he will try to make all parties play nice but to say he's a Haslam plant is freaking laughable. Both men love UT football, one is just damn incompetent when it comes to getting results.

The situation had become untenable. He had to go. Sure he might have been bitter but that doesn’t change the entire dynamics of financial influence at UT. Even still I don’t think he and Haslam are at odds, in fact I think they’re friendly
