Fulmer's Quotes

By a long shot.:ermm:

We still won just 7 games man, we did have a better staff top to bottom then we had.

I wonder how Kiffin would have fared with Deer In Headlights Ainge or Rick Clausen?

I think he would have taken them over Crompton.

He won 7 games with the same roster Phil won 5 with.

And didn't lose to to UF and Bama by 30 as I stated before.

Kiffin was a snake but his staff out coached Phils. Plain and simple.

Like I said, he will never win a NT...highly doubt he ever wins a conference title.

By your accounts we actually went 7-4-2 the two being moral victories.

This isn't a Kiffin/Fulmer debate.

I normally steer clear of Fulmer threads, and I hope nothing but the best for the man...

But, this type of commentary does nothing but negate his best wishes for the program. If he truly has the success of UT at heart, he would realize that much of our current situation is the result of sub-par performance AND recruiting through the 2000's, much of which was during his tenure. The comments on expectations and wins are absurd: going 5-7 while picked in the preseason top-5 and as a "dark horse" NC contender in '05 should tell all.

I like Phil and consider the Fulmers friends of the family, but I can't stomach him badmouthing our current situation and delusional view that his later regime didn't have anything to do with it.

The delusion is phenomenal.

Explain the delusion. Didn't we get drilled by The Zooker in '02 while watching Jabba clap along the way? Who can forget that arse kicking at the hands of The Fighting Franchione's. The mid 90's Nebraska teams, late 90's through early 00's Miami teams, and the recent success of Florida (2 titles in 4 years) are something that Fultanicroom never even got close to accomplishing.

I'll remember Stay Puft for watching some of his best teams get curb stomped by the likes of Penn St. and Nebraska in bowl games. Let's not forget our two years of absence from the post-season.

Agreed. They both hosed us.

I thought we were 12-0 in moral victories with Kiffin?

and you are judging this by the final score? that wasnt even close to the worst loss. when the wheels came off they came off. But we held right with oregon alot longer than auburn could have.

I'd like to agree with you, but you can't factor out the fact that the players had another year of experience and two games is only a marginal improvement. Five games won was a miracle with the offensive prowess we had in 2008. I really doubt that level of play would have continued. I am in no way saying we should have kept Phil though. Still, we were hardly a better team. Daniel Lincoln was also good for at least a loss in each year.

We still suffered a couple of blowout losses and I'm starting to really wonder if what we generally accepted as better coaching was more hope than anything. Kiffin and company aren't exactly tearing it up at USC. They look a lot like UT last year. The best thing Kiffin had going was in recruiting. And now we are what we are. For better or worse.

Does anybody doubt that ol' Phil is still working it and hoping to be called back to save the program one day? I wouldn't doubt that for one second.

I will also pull every last hair out of my head if he ever returns to coach the Vols.

Now, unlike the complete Fulmer haters, I apreciate what Fulmer did in the early part of his tenure. You cannot ignore it. HOWEVER, unlike the Fulmer sheep, I am not going to ignore the end, either. It was way past time for him to go. He is the primary reason this program is where it is now.

When are some of ya'll going to admit you don't know as much as you think you do? Kiffin never knew a damn thing about being a head coach. He does know about failure, ie. (was never THE Off. Coord. @ SoCal, his hand was held the whole time), he screwed the Raiders, he screwed us, he lied to the NCAA, he lied to players, he lied to recruits, their parents, the Knox Co. Police when he wrecked his car on Northshore and some of ya'll think his shorts still don't stink. I bet you think your first girlfriend will be coming back to you also. Geez
Phil was so bad huh? Yeah it was sooooo bad being in the Top 10 every year and being considered one of the best schools to play for, a school with class, and in real conversations about Natl. Championships.
Just admit it, Hammy needs to go for effin up so bad & so often,...and some of you just need to vent cause you can't believe that Kiffin sucked so bad and couldn't do better than Phil. And he will be the AD and your never gonna get him out of that office till he dies. The programs will flourish under his term.
GO VOLS

Fulmer is a modern day Gen. Neyland - he still has loads of work to do for UT. His mark will be seen around campus for 50 yrs.

Remember the '05 season where the Vols started the season in the top ten and in the conversation for a Natl. Championship? How did that work out for Tennessee?

Fulmer is part of the reason why our football program has to "rebuild"

Really now? Between the last 3 HC exchanges how many players have bolted because this wasn't what the signed up for? How many players? We had a fully packed team w/Phil. Then lost a bunch when Kid Kiffin took over (or he ran em' off, cause he was such a great People Person). Then Double D had to clean house to get the trash out Kif recruited. Now what do we have, 28 players? I think you might want to use the way-back machine and try to remember when UT was on tv every weekend and was talked about for good reasons.

Sure, Fulmer had some pretty good recruits for "most" of his tenure ,but other than '98 what did he ever do with them? That '98 team with the assload of talent and the breaks falling our way I don't see a coach in the country that could've kept them out of the c'ship that year. Then we saw the almost equally as talented team in '01 unravel in the SEC championship and thus start the demise of the Fulmer era along with UT football.
