I have two scenarios that I feel is the only reason UT lost to Ga State!

A) Either Fulmer brought in Pruitt for a year to pick his brain on recruiting, D, and what practice looks like when coaching up NC teams. Fulmer knowing he was going to bring in an OC to be HC in waiting (Chaney) with Tee as HC in waiting. While Fulmer also force fed Chaney and Tee to Pruitt telling him to just run the D. Fulmer saw Pruitt micromanaging and messing up the O when UT had a great OC in Helton. So, Fulmer let Pruitt hang himself and realized Pruitt doesn't know squat about running an efficient O. Then, he brings in an OC/HC in waiting (Chaney) and Tee WR/HC waiting for Chaney to retire.

Or

B) Fulmer isn't pulling the strings on the football team. But, he is trying to micromanage too much and give too much advice that Pruitt doesn't like. So, Pruitt is sabatoging himelf. He no longer wants to be a HC under Fulmer as AD.

How else does any one explain winning vs AU and UK last year and losing to a mediocre Sun Belt team with as much or more talent and lacking some in experience? All of you that think all of the sudden Pruitt can't coach is ridiculous! I can assure you my last sentence will BE PROVEN!!! Think about it Vol fans. Use your heads. Yes, Pruitt coached against Chaney and said he was tough as an OC. Did Pruitt really have any kind of relationship with Chaney and Tee when he was hired as HC? I think the O decisions have Fulmer written all over them! We will probably never really know. But, Fulmer pretty much sabotaged Majors to get the HC job for UT. The players loved Fulmer. Fulmer was a 'PLAYERS COACH'. Majors was a drunk. Fulmer saw an opportunity and pounced on it like a mouse on cheese!!! Do you BIG ORANGE FANS really think UT beats UF#4 and UGA#14 and loses to unraked USC and AU in 92 (without a plan to oust Majors)?

I guess option C would be I am absurd. I am sure most of you will choose option C. But, it may be proven one day it is A or B. That is what I feel! Fulmer can't stop pulling the strings and never will until he is out of the program for good! If he rights the ship, he will probably feel like he should pull them all he wants! But, he will never have a great HC wanting to be micromanaged by an AD! I am worried we may continue to be stagnant with Fulmer as AD. I don't think he can keep out of his own way for success. His ego and being crushed when fired probably won't allow his mind to keep from meddling with some of the field, recruiting, hiring, and practice decisions within the football team. I hope I am wrong!!!

Another part of C would be the experienced guys are pissed at Pruitt for playing all of the players he recruited. So, they have quit on him! I know a few on this board have said this has been rumored. I truly believe that is a big or main problem with this team. UT is in a very sad state right now. I hope this nightmare will end before it goes five more years. The last 11 have been hard enough on all of us fans!!!

There is not a single shred of evidence that Fulmer is dabbling, pulling strings, micromanaging, etc.

While we know Phil was meddling, reported NCAA violations for it, the most likely scenario is that Pruitt has no idea what he's doing. Everyone reaches their limit. Sometimes a guy is great in high school but just can't cut it in college, sometimes great in college but just can't get the NFL, same with coaches. Some may be great coordinators but that is the ceiling. Pruitt may have exceeded his ceiling. Normally you get your first shot at a Georgia State type team, not a top flight football program.

Look at last year, UTEP was awful, a bottom 5 defense and offense. They couldn't score but we only got 24 on the board.

This year, Georgia State is even worse than UTEP. Literally dead last in the NCAA in pass defense. QBs averaged completing 75 percent of passes against them for the season last year. Their offense was also horrible and they have major depth issues.

We should have thrown deep and thrown it there often. JG doesn't to that though. We heard all about how much stronger the team would be after a second year with the same SC coach. After the game the GSU coach is talking about how they physically punished the Vols.

So as insane as it sounds, the further the team has gotten from Butch freaking Jones, the worse it's gotten. Year two almost universally sees a big leap in successful coaches, if they don't make the improvement you can start the clock towards their firing. We've leaped backward.

You seriously think Tennessee paid a buyout, then paid millions for a year just to “pick someone’s brain on recruiting”?

People can say what they want about Fulmer......but he certainly knows how to recruit.

“All of you that think all of the sudden Pruitt can't coach is ridiculous”

How do you know he ever could “head” coach?

I don't necessarily agree with the OP hypotheses, but the rotating offensive line seems familiar. This is something Majors did and was proud of. I was there in school at the time and I don't remember if it started before or after Fulmer arrived and I don't remember if Fulmer continued this practice when he became HC. I would not be surprised if this aspect of last weekend has Fulmer's fingerprints on it.

Can't ever remember Fulner doing anything like that. Only thing exotic I ever remember was during Dave Clawson's year, we were flipping the line strong/weak based on playcall.

I remember Majors being proud that his line was always fresh and the linemen could play all positions. Fulmer arrived sometime during that time period.

I think you need a whole team of psychiatrists. One won't do. FYI, there are a whole bunch of sites on 911 theories...visit some.

or E) the talented just got here and tdont quite know what they are doing and hose who have been here as butch holdovers suck and are just looking to ride it out. All it takes is one guy on the line to consistently whiff and everyone looks like crap.

That still doesnt explain Chaney's game calling. It is a crime we did not have at least 50 points.

Egos? Lol. The reason we lost is the entire team, from the coaches to the players, disnt do their jobs. Simple as that.

I dont understand why Chandler didnt get at least 20 carries. Dude averaged 8 yards a carry. We should have relied much heavier on the run game.

Yeah and the majority of the players are in over their head also. Very poor SEC roster with noticeable lack of speed and physicality of a Girl Scout troop.

People are over complicating this. A portion of this team has quit giving maximum effort for this coaching staff. Now that’s Pruitt’s fault but it’s also sad as hell that several players don’t give a damn about giving their all for Tennessee. You handle problems like a man not a damn child; have a problem with the staff? Fine, transfer out. Blame Pruitt and certainly he’s part of the problem but we have some pathetic quitters on this team.
