Fulmer's Head Coach Hiring Decision

He chose Pruitt because he had a better plan & brought in great coaches with him.

I’d take Pruitt over Tucker.

We wouldn’t have half the talent we have now (crouch, Thompson, Gray, To’to’o’ etc...without Pruitt & his staff he built.

Tennessee looks bad right now, because of the QB position.

And that’s on the 2016 & 2017 classes. Nothing to do with Pruitt.
So does that mean Mel Tucker isn't responsible for Colorado's 3-1 record with a wins over Nebraska and ASU who were both ranked at the time they played.

Hindsight is 20/20. It's certainly not true that Pruitt was the best available, only one that said yes, none of those things are true, obviously. Fulmer just thought that Pruitt would do well as a head coach. They may have discussed a plan to put together a good staff. They thought they could get along. I don't recall anything about them interviewing Mel Tucker, but there are hundreds of coaches they didn't interview. How do you pick just Mel Tucker?

This stuff is not easy.

I think Tucker was interviewed, it might have been when Currie was scrambling.

Tucker was on the short list, and I believe was actually interviewed.

Apparently the man can coach.

Nope. Foolmer interviewed Tucker Pruitt and Steele.

Currie went after Schiano, Gundy, Doeren, and then snuck out of town to see Leach. Brohm was suppose to be in there somewhere, but he said he never got a call.

Forgot about Steele, at least he didn't hire that guy.

It was reported he met with Tucker and Kevin Steele. Or at least had a phone call with them.

Did Colorado move to the SEC? And did they have a roster depleated of talent to compete?

I also missed where Colorado fans revolted against the school, got everyone fired and started over in the athletic department & academic department.

Trying to make exact comparisons is INSANE.

And the problem with a lot of our fan base.

your drunk.............Tucker takes over for Colorado and competes over-night. Pruitt is not even coming close to that. drink you another bruh

Comparing two schools with completely different situations is crazy, especially with what Pruitt walked into.

That’s like saying I ordered chicken fingers, and then order steak. How the hell did the steak not taste like chicken fingers?!?!

I mean I ordered them from a place that serves food!!! They should be the same!

Just beyond me, how people can’t grasp or remember where we were when Pruitt took the job.

It's a disconnect with many Volunteers football fans on this board, the utter mess the university was in just prior to Pruitt's hire, and how it echoed back to an embarrassingly dysfunctional time in UT's recent history. Why was Pruitt hired?

Because he was the best we could do at the time and given the circumstances.

All of these posts, all of these billions of characters spit out upon this site based in the assumptions and viewpoint that UT is/was capable of attracting and hiring anyone else... Twilight Zone. Reality is somewhere back there, before you turned down this road in the dark. I've already recapped for the umpteenth time the path to present circumstances and will not do so again, here. Face the music, VNsters.
After being fed the mess that we fans have had to eat for the last 10 years, being told he was the best we could get means very little. If that is so we need to join the Sunbelt or OVC and people need to stop putting so much money into this program. We are paying SEC prices for tickets and getting Sunbelt football.

To the best of my knowledge, Tucker was the other serious candidate. It was down to him and Pruitt.
