No way Fulmer is not a coach next fall. Not for the money...he has enough. Just because he likes coaching. I doubt he would want to stay at UT while MH is still around.

Well...(and don't get your hackles up, I'm just making a point based on your post)...Florida and LSU, in turn, destroyed the best the Big 10 had to offer in the last two National Championship games.

That's worth quite a bit in my book.

:)So let me get this straight, CPF could go to UCF, Clemson, Auburn, Wyoming,So. Florida,Miss. St.,or replace Hamilton as A.D. To quote the judge in My Cousin Vinny, "Are you on drugs ? " He's an old coach who let an entire program backslide into mediocrity 10 years after winning a national title against a team who's starting QB was hurt for the game,not to mention the Stoernor Stumble Fumble that got us there.I think he'll replace Jim Donnan as the ex -coach analyst on TV.That's all he's qualified for in my book.

Personally, I don't see Fulmer at UCF.

I do think he wants to keep coaching, and if he does, the offers will come. From better than UCF.

I expect that an offer will be made for an Assistant AD position at UT. I think it's 50/50, at best, that Fulmer takes it. (a) he's mad as hell at Hamilton, and (b) he still wants to coach. Taking a job "under" the guy that essentially fired him might be too much to bear, and I guarantee you there will be job offers from other schools.

I see Fulmer taking another head coaching position; taking most of his staff with him; and winning. Not big, but winning. Biding his time until he can come back on his terms, and kick Mike Hamilton out of his new office.

JMO.

It wouldn't surprise me if He takes another coaching job...Maybe Miss St if Crooms get Croomed?...He could really help a program.

All this talk of Fulmer coaching somewhere else is disturbing. Its kind of like seeing your ex girlfriend with a new man. The thought of it is very awkward if you ask me. :ermm:

I hope he stays at UT in some type of fund raiser or ambassador capacity but does not have any decision making authority. His poor decisions and reluctance to make a change when he makes a mistake has been a huge part of his down fall.

I would think that Fulmer would get his buyout no matter who hired him. Of course, just like the other coaching staff, Fulmer's salary would be factored into the buyout and UT would have to cover the difference that his current salary did not fully meet. For example. He is supposed to receive two million a year for the next three years I think. The school that hires him signs him for 1 million a year. UT would be responsible for ONLY 1 million per year.

Now here's the funny thing. Let's suppose that Johnson, from Vandy, gets canned or lured away from Vandy. How ironic, depressing, and full circle would it be that CPF gets the call and goes to Vandy for the next ten years and not only continues the Vandy streak against us, but also begins sweeping up the in state recruits out of UT's backyard. Impossible? Maybe, maybe not. Some had said it would be impossible for Wyoming to leave Knoxville with a win.....

The only way Fulmer coaches again is if he's willing to take a Solich-style exile in the back half of a minor conference. I don't see how an AD at any school that takes football seriously could look the second half of his career and conclude anything other than that Fulmer's done.

He's an idiot if he wants to coach again. Take a nice job in an AD apartment somewhere. It's obvious his days of coaching at anywhere near a top level are over.

Phil Fulmer, for all his faults, is not an idiot. It's clear that he bleeds Orange & White, and it's clear that he has lost control of this team, and this program.

Hence, he is gone.

Agreed that his days of coaching anywhere near a top level are over. Reason? Phil is stuck in 1998, and that was 10 years ago. "Equity" doesn't win games.

Does he coach again? Maybe. I wish him well, but at this point, I really could not care less.

I don't think it's that Fulmer's actually declined much. IMO, he's still what he always has been: great recruiter; very average coach. The problem is that that's simply not good enough to win anymore in the power conferences. But success is relative, and there are still plenty of places where that would be good enough to win games. If he's willing to take a job well out of the spotlight, there are places that would be willing to give him a shot.

One question mark, though, is how good a recruiter he would be once stripped of the facilities, atmosphere, exposure, etc. etc. of Tennessee football. I'm not sure how credible he could be in living rooms wearing a Kent State hat and talking about all the players he put in the NFL at Tennessee. And if you take his recruiting prowess away, he doesn't have that much left to offer.
