Fulmer's Comments

If we buy into the fact that Fulmer set the bar, then we must also buy into the fact that he has now lowered it significantly.

Johnny Majors won 3 SEC championships in his last 8 years as HC, Fulmer has won 2 in 16. Don't act like we were garbage and Fulmer was the messiah. It was time for Johnny to go, and Fulmer stepped in and took us to the next level, where we were national powerhouses and a dominant team. Now, we are a punchline on Gameday.

It's Fi=ulmer's time to go, and a new coach to try to restore us to our glory days. Fulmer's record and win % was mentioned. Look at some of the coaches he padded that with, and look at the coaches in the SEC now. We got by for years "out-athleting" other teams, when we won in spite of coaching. Now that other teams have equal or better talent, we have NO CHANCE of winning.

We have become the 40 year old stripper that wonders why she isn't getting the lap dances, then looks around and sees that she is surrounded by a room full of hot 25 year olds. Her time has past, and so has Fulmer's.

Phil Fulmer is a joke!! I cant stand him. I could take the talent he has had and have a better winning % than him. He needs to hurry up and go!!! Get out of Knoxville Phillip we will not miss you. You Suck!!!!:mf_surrender:

I'm sure Fulmer could drink the same 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon and make a post just as asinine as this one.

His comment that he loves winning but hates losing more didn't sound right to me. I'd rather put 100% into trying to win than 100% into trying not to lose. He also talked about having to figure out what to do to get back to the top. Didn't sound to me like he had any intention of stepping down. I was surprised, and disappointed by that.

It was obvious five years ago that Fulmer was done--the quality of the football really began to slide. We went through one bad season, now here comes another three years later. Enough is enough. I would love to get Gruden but know that isn't happening. Who is the Bruce Pearl of college football?

Who's to say that isn't going to happen in the near future? For someone who has been a part of the program for as long as he has it can't be easy to just walk away. Especially for a competitor.

See: Brett Favre

Bret Favre= Still successful

Phil Fulmer= Not so much

I believe Phil would be a helluva competitor in a Krispy Kreme eating contest

Brett Favre is currently 4-3 (with wins coming over the Dolphins, Cardinals, Bengals, and Chiefs, not to mention losing to the Raiders). He is also tied with JT O'Sullivan for first in the NFL for most interceptions with 11. That sure is pretty successful...

I agree with most all of that. And I think the "working like heck" phrase is very funny. I'm not some huge Fulmer supporter that's trying to aimlessly defend his honor I just feel like our fan base needs to be more rational overall because it's making us look bad.

How does it make us look bad that many of our fans are trying to force out a coach who can't win anymore? We're about to endure our second losing season in four years. Our rivals regularly kick the crap out of us. We've been at best a fringe top 25 team for this entire decade. That's not supposed to be good enough in Tennessee.

Coaching is a tough, uncompromising business. Very few guys get to retire peacefully in a manner of their own choosing. Fulmer knows that; it's how he got the job in the first place, after all. Perhaps the lunatic fringe has gone over the line here or there, but I'd say that overall the mood of the fanbase is right about where it ought to be.

Not everything is about money chief. The man has essentially dedicated his life to Tennessee and now people couldn't care less. I definitely think it's time for a change, I just think people should show some class and be more respectful.

It's hard to be respectful to someone who is either too arrogant or stupid to realize the end is near. Take Llloyd Carr, for example. He knew it was time to step down, and he did. Fulmer needs to show some class and do likewise.
