For someone that gets that gets TOP tier talent almost every year that's pitiful.

The NT that he won? The most ironic thing about that NT is that Fulmer set the bar for himself.

well you could say that. 5-2 counting NT game then going 2-5. programs grow stale. it's time to move on. he's declined. we can't keep fulmer for what he did 8 years ago

I'm not saying it's not time to move on and I certainly agree with the stale part. UT football is just a bore to watch sometimes.

Having said that, it takes a lot of little pieces to just run through an SEC schedule and get to another NT game. There are only a handful of coaches that could step in and do it and I seriously doubt that any of them would be interested in Tennessee at the moment, but you never know.

He set the bar, then failed in epic fashion to even come close to clearing it again.

Dude, freakin' Spurrier left and the SEC was Fulmer's for the taking...........

I say we offer Saban 6 million a year over 8 years!

Hat, you could cover that, right?

I can't argue with that, but that's a hard bar to reach over and over. That's obviously what makes the NC game so special.

why wouldn't they want to come to tennessee? what makes us less desirable than say Auburn (who should have won one), LSU, OSU, Mich or some of those schools. i mean spurrier went to USC. i think you should give UT more credit than you are

I'm not going to argue with that either. An SECCG win is way overdue. Getting there isn't a joke either, especially now.

It is a difficult bar. However, it would be interesting to find out the last National Champion to follow their title up by failing to win as much as a conference title for 8 seasons.

His inability to capitalize on that situation is the most daming part of the case against him.

Fulmer should have put a stranglehold on the SEC. Instead he almost seemed complacent like UT was entitled to be the top program in the conference.

He had the opportunity of a life time hit him in the belly and he let it go with a pillsbury dough boy laugh.......

You have to "work like heck" to recruit. Maybe?

i think that's the only obstacle. the tradition and respect are still there. right now the talent is there. I don't know what makes fulmer so good at recruiting, but I can't fathom he's the only person in the world that could recruit to Tennessee.

I try to have some prespective on this. Earlier in the season when we were putting up 30+...it wasnt boring at all. But after the Lsu game it wasnt that much fun. Plus the taste of the psu loss still lingers.

I think I cried during the Arkansas game. Seriously. I did.
