Any Div 1 program that would hire phillip is basically saying to its fanbase that they are no longer serious about college football.
Of all the schools that have Ivy League standards, they are the only one that ever has half a chance at a winning season. They are located in one of the most populated places in America...Southern California, and if it weren't so, they'd have Vandy's luck as well.
They are able to take the left overs the other PAC-10 teams leave behind and still field a decent team. Even still...even with a former NFL QB as their HC, they still loiter at the bottom of their conference. I wouldn't call that "Doing well." Vandy is what Vandy is...an Ivy League School pretending to be an SEC caliber athletic entity. It's not, and I think it's time the SEC showed them the door. They suck in far more shared revenue than they generate. They are a leech, a parasite to this conference, and the statistics bear that out.
Very highly doubt this. Johnson just got them to their 1st bowl in 20-some odd years. They're so happy with him I sincerely doubt they would pull the plug on him this early...he'd possibly have to lose like every game this season
TIFWIW: According to someone I've talked to (on-line) who lives in Louisville and claims to know someone on the "inside" --
(1) Unless there is improvement this season, Kragthorpe will be gone.
(2) Fulmer IS absolutely on their short list.
You may be right. I'm not saying I think he'll get the job. I'm just passing along what I was told -- that he is on their "in case Kragthorp gets the boot" short list. I might end up having to eat crow, but I don't think so. I think my "second-hand source" does know what's going on there with respect to that.Fulmer, get the job at Louisville?ost-4-1090547912:

I really don't understand the put down. While he failed at UT he was and still should be respected as a head coach. Every coach gets fired. Pink slips come with the job, just not dated. I did not follow Petrino but I am positive he got his recruits from places like PA, NJ, Ohio and Phil is used to recruiting regionally and nationally. He will not outwork our present staff, but he will do a respectable job at many major universities. Win NC's - No,,Win SEC Championships - No, Win the Big East? - Go to mid to large bowl games? - he will be very competitive - IMO.
Also IMO - no one should coach at Vandy,,, they should kill the football program. it has been a coaching graveyard forever. Stick to polo
Stanford is in Northern California, btw...

You think that but the jury is still out on Fulmer getting a job, at all. He is never going to be in another high-profile program such as U.T. Perhaps that will sink in as time goes on and he realizes that he will just have to take a job anywhere to assuage his big ego. Plus, time isn't on his side. He is a graybeard approaching 60 and would be 60 if he is lucky enough to land a job for the 2010 season.Fulmer was one of the winningest coaches in the SEC or in the nation for that matter and he led UT to a NC . I think a LOT of schools would love to have him .
