Hey guys, I was informed earlier this morning on the way to work by a local sports radio station that the rumor mill is in full blow with Fulmer on the mind. The rumor came out of Vanderbilt that they were trying to get negotiations up to sign Fulmer after this year if Bobby Johnson fails, Vanderbilt AD has reportedly said that he is tired of losing and Fulmer would be the ultimate move, very interesting I thought, this would be some crazy.

Doesn't seem very likely but that sure would make the UT-Vandy games a lot more fun.

I don't see them turning their back on a coach who finally got them to a bowl game. He'd have to have a few really bad seasons before I see them getting rid of Johnson. I see Fulmer heading to Louisville, or some place like that.

Nonsense.

Johnson led Vandy to its best season in a quarter century...and, for the first time in a more than a quarter century, their coaching situation is stable. They're not going to shake things up just to get Fulmer.

I believe he was an assistant there a long time ago.

Still, for Vandy to fire Bobby Johnson one year after he got them their first bowl win in over 50 years would be a stupid move, IMO.

I agree. It would be madness.

Besides, I think Johnson is a better coach than Fulmer anyway. Look at how many times his teams took Fulmer's teams right down to the wire, despite the fact that UT always had superior talent on the field. And who can forget 2005...

The thing I like about volnation is that once in a while you can get some really interesting news that is about to come out before any of the major media outlets can get verified. But, you have to sift through mindless people trying to make a name for themselves with stupid-as-hell, made-up rumors that are even worth laughing about. This happens to be one of them. i think Fulmer to Carson Newman carries more weight than this one. Better yet, Fulmer to Florida carries more weight. Better yet, Fulmer anywhere carries a lot of weight, if you think about it.

Absolute garbage.

So Vandy is putting this in place right AFTER Johnson gets them to their first winning season and bowl in 26 years and their first bowl win in forever? The same Vandy that was extremely patient with him the previous 6 seasons when he only got close to a winning season once and even pretty much blew that one?

Whatever. This rumor is pure bunk.

Then whatever radio show you were listening to is either run by idiots or they were obviously joking.

He had some close games and had some awful losses. From '01 to '03, he went 3 consecutive years without even scoring against Tennessee. I'm not sure I'd call him a better coach than Fulmer....but, at this moment, he's better suited for the Vandy job than Phil is.

u mad?

Vanderbilt is behind Johnson 100%, pretty sure he just signed a new contract and they are re-doing all of the football facilities as a part of keeping him happy and keeping him at Vandy.

Not to mention Johnson should have had the Dores in a bowl in 2005 but couldn't beat a horrible MTSU team at home nor could they beat a horrible Kentukcy team at home on Senior Day, with their best QB maybe ever.

Plus honestly they should have done a lot better last year. Yeah I know getting over a 26 year hump is bad, but the losses to Miss. St. and Duke were both really bad losses and they couldn't beat the worst UT team in a very long time with their best team in a really long time...at home. That's probably 3 Ws more they should have had instead of squeaking to a winning season.

When will those folks ever get a freaking clue? They are NEVER going to be a winning program. Their academic requirements are just to stringent for 80% of the D1 level athletes coming out of HS.
If Fulmer is fool enough to accept it, he too will be run out within 3-5 yrs. You just can't recruit to that school. It's worse than Miss State.

I've thought for years that We need to kick Vandy out of the conference...the Ivy League is where they belong...period. Fine...you want Ivy League academic requirements, Vandy?...then get your sorry scavenging arses to the Ivy League. Vanderbilt has been and always will be, a bottom feeder....sucking up SEC resources and never delivering it's share.

Bring in Florida State or Georgia Tech in Vandy's place
