Assuming you are right about him lying about Clemson's interest then there are multiple reasons. For one, he was unemployed. So, by getting it out there that a school is interested in him makes other schools know that he is at least interested in coaching again. Secondly, like you hear many HS recruits do, you throw that out there and hope that you get a bite from someone.... Call it what you want, but that is how it works and as someone that buddies around with director of player personnel peole you should know that.... Whereas in the 1990's when Fulmer was loved, it makes no sense to tell his DAUGHTER that in the privacy of their home.... Sorry, that argument fails...
