Fulmer to be named AD soon

Completely disagree. Even if Fulmer isn't the ideal guy, he's going to take us further down the road and get us to the next stop. He loves UT so much that he'd be willing to do anything to get us back on top again. Loving the university is a quality that I think you underestimate because we've brought in so many "outside guys" over the recent years.

Bama brought in an outside guy and they are dominating. They just brought in another outside guy to be AD who far surpasses fulmer (to everyone but Tennesseans). I don't get you people.

Davenport and the BOT leaked information and logged on to VolNation just to see how we would respond. They are playing games with us.

In all seriousness, I wonder if they leak information in an effort to get feedback and then use it to ultimately make a decision. I know the typical fan is not going to influence the BOT or boosters, but they might want to see a glimpse into the fanbase's reaction before making such a crucial decision. This type of announcement may also give them more time to make that decision. While everybody is in a frenzy about Fulmer, they may be interviewing other candidates.

Doubtful

I never said Fulmer was a homerun hire. He's going to be a good one that will do anything to see UT succeed.

What I'm saying is he definitely is not a bad hire.

My point was that loving UT isn't a bad quality and that I'd rather have Fulmer than 90% of the AD candidates.

No issues at all with picking Fulmer. My only concern is his age and health. I hope, in 2-3 years, we're not back in the same position of looking for an AD.

As mentioned by others, Battle was a Bama grad and Mal Moore also had long ties to Bama. If it is Fulmer, we will have to give him a chance, before we crucify him in typical Volnation fashion.

And I was in favor of PF being let go, even after 2005 when it was obvious to anyone that we were badly slipping as a program. Problem was, there was no good plan to replace him.

Honest question, i know fulmer helped some in getting the ETSU football program back together and yes i know thats small potatoes compared to UT, but what all did he do and what roles did he help take on? Has he helped anywhere else in this capacity? This is in no way a pro, or anti fulmer post im just honestly curious as to what all hes helped do and what skills and experience he may have gained.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Absolute joke up on the Hill, to many power hungry big money boosters that need to be told to keep their butts quiet. Fulmer should never step foot in the AD or football offices at UT except when brought in for anniversaries or celebrations. You guys point to Dickey and a few others but again most coaches hate to work for former coaches, especially those with a cult following like Fulmer, times have changed from the 80's when people like Dickey could step into a roll like AD and be fine, plus the fact that dickey had started and ran a big money business, nothing that Fulmer has done in his life, he ran the program into the ground and likes to micromanage like no one's business. He ran over Dave Clawson and pretty much into one game took neutered him as the OC and what we saw is the blow back of doing that, and yet UT is going to name this guy the AD! As we always say This is UT, good lord Bama loves us looking like bumbling idiots and UT does a good job of continuing doing just that! There are much better candidates out there besides Blackburn, but instead we choose the wing and a prayer candidate!

If BOT is floating trial balloons on VN we're in trouble. I did consider how this news supplanted coverage of Bama's hire, at least in Nashville. Maybe we're pushing fake news to win the cycle.

I'm referring to Saban and Byrne, in case it wasn't obvious. Bama used to be like us. Then they grew up.

Sounds to me like we have a bunch of sissy whiny snowflakes on here. Dave Hart had experience. Don't remember him influencing in any championships in any sports. Philip knows exactly what coaches need and he's going to fight for them. GO VOLS!!!!

Good points. He's much more qualified than many understand. Some very good ADs were former coaches. Mal Moore at Bama is one example. Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin is another. Solid hire, imo.

I find myself agreeing with your posts more than I like. That can't be right.:eek:hmy:

Bottom line: Fulmer has given more to this program than anybody. Player, assistant Coach, National Champion winning head coach, you name it. He knows more about this program than all of VN combined(That's still not saying much). Over his 25+ years of service to this university, I think he picked up enough of what an AD does to do the job and then some. Nobody will question his loyalty to the program and there's not another candidate out there you can say that about.
The people on here complaining about Fulmer as AD are the same ones who complained about him being the head coach. Look we're taking the advice of those people has got us.

Guys chill out. I think Phil Fulmer will be a fine AD, and besides how can he be any worse than Dave Hart or Mike Hamilton. Those guys have been clowns and made major mistakes as Tennessee ADs. Fulmer will be better than those 2, and I'm for bringing one of our greatest coaches back as an AD. He's got the financial side of things down, because he managed a hedge fund since he was done as TN head man. Also he has had time to grow and reflect on mistakes made in the past. I think Phil will be a great AD, and he was right up there with Blackburn as my top candidate.

Managed a hedge fund? Lol. The fund is closed and he isnt listed as a "control person" on the funds SEC filings.

Pretty sure you have nothing factual to base this on. I'm not certain what one thing has to do with the other
