Fulmer supports Butch before UGA game

Butch will be evaluated on his overall record in the SEC and against our rivals

Those are the games that count. Those are the teams we compete with on a yearly basis. Those are the teams we need to beat to get to the SECCG

Those wins, over non-conference foes are nice to use to pad stats, but in evaluating overall success, doesn't mean much. Especially since Butch has not beat a top tier OOC yet

You guys can crap in one hand and wish in another, but if his overall SEC record doesn't improve, he is gone

He knows damn well it's not silly. He got fired and I think everybody would agree was a better coach than butch. It's funny people keep posting these comments like fulmer, or Peyton, or curry...see they support the coach. Lol. What would anyone expect any of those guys to say. Of course they're going to say he has their support.
It's crazy how politically correct of a world we live in today. All three of this know butch isn't a good coach and it'll take a miracle for butch to survive even this year. Much less beyond this season. Coaches don't just become creative, intelligent decision makers. They either are that or they aren't. And the silly cliches were only able to hide the truth for so long with butch

I've never like how CPF ended his career, but that was then. He knows mistakes were made in his final years. CPF was a senior coach, those things should have never happened. Butch is still a young coach and actually, I think Butch made the same mistake, letting most of his staff go from last year, this put his 2017 performance in jeopardy.......jmo

I don't hear about anyone that matters saying anything negative about CBJ...

Silence is not always a good thing.

He could have helped himself by having the team ready for UMass but they were uninterested and uninspired. Couple that with Florida botch and I'd bet Butch is trying to buy more time

Isn't Fulmer on the payroll now?

It's not a shock that he would support a fellow employee in distress.

Yes PF is on the payroll. However that did not stop PF from sliding a shive in between Johnny Majors shoulder blades when both were collecting UT checks simultaneously.

He says it's silly to be talking about him losing his job.

That must hurt you guys that already have him fired. Of course many of you truly believed you knew more about coaching and running a successful D1 football program than CPF did also, so maybe not.

Bottom line it is ridiculous to be talking about firing a coach who is currently 3-1. No getting around that fact.

Personally, I would love for our HOF coach to be right about Jones because that would mean Coach Jones will win championships at UT and occasionally beat Bama. That's what we all are wanting right? I guarantee you that is Coach Fulmer's expectation of this program. I've voiced my opinion that Jones should go, but I would be the first to happily say I was wrong. We'll see.

It wouldn't surprise me if he and Currie put a list together already. Fulmer knows what the boosters will and won't approve and Currie does the pre rec work

I'm totally supportive of our coach. I also happen to believe he's in over his head as a field general. I also would love to be proven wrong.

That being said, if they are not refining a list already then they are irresponsible. We need to be working the coaching channels now, so that in the case that this season truly collapses, we will be in the best position possible to make a hire.

Best scenario, Butch shocks the world beginning tomorrow and Curry just wasted his time.

Worst scenario, is the wheels come off and we go 6-6 and have to buy out Jones. Then we make our best play for they guy to get us to the next level.

Probable scenario. Jones goes 7-5, is given another year, and we have wait and see next year with a more favorable buyout.

Wildcard scenario at least in my mind. If Jones goes 7-5 or 8-4 and Chip Kelly is on the board, then you make a play for him at any price. Assuming he really wants this long term. Every season is not going to present an elite coach prospect, so you'd better be ready when he is there.

In the mean time, I 100% support my coach and entire team to kick the living crap outta Georgia and win the SEC.

His staff has been mediocre to bad overall since he has been here. Player development across several positions is proof. He's made some positions better with changes and ignored some too long. And others he didn't make an upgrade when he did make a move.

It probably doesn't get talked about enough, but all successful HCs have good to great position coaches and coordinators. Jones never has had either and needed the later.

Because we haven't seen this before or were we asleep for the colapse that was last season?

It's no secret Phil was bitter about Tennessee and wanted the Job back so why not try and wedge his way back in? Hell if he can sell the boosters he's a lock

Its pure to think Butch rights the ship here with everything going on. It's almost guaranteed he loses the big 4 on the schedule add in that he hasn't beaten Muschamp at either school and he's 2-2 against VANDY he's out it's just a matter of when

Did Fulmer prop Butch up knowing he will lose and that is why he talked highly of Currie and how he could recruit at a high level right now? Makes you wonder if he was using reverse psychology to get his job back during the bye week.

How much of this talk about Butch being fired if he loses tomorrow is BS wishful thinking and how much is legitimate?

Currie, Fulmer, Peyton, Haslam etc. aren't going to say anything about Butch in a negative manner, especially at 3-1.

That doesn't mean any or all dont think its time for him to go.

Fans personal and emotional feelings about all of this being translated as FACTS, either way, is comical...to say the least.

I've seen the last 4 years and 4 games. I have an opinion. I have no idea what the administration wants or expects from Butch, but I would think, I repeat, I would THINK, with our history, all of you (us) could understand that they (administration, Phil, Peyton etc) thinks its silly to think Butch is in grave danger ....right now.

Like it or not, my opinion is logical.

I personally don't see a decision being made on Jones until after the season barring a complete collapse.

Just not sure how much stock we should be putting in the opinion of the man who once said "eight is enough at TN" to try to justify keeping his job and his fat contract extension going.

As others have said, Jones better watch his back big time and win some meaningful games down the stretch or he will get double tapped from behind by Fulmer.

I have little doubt he has been politicking for a second chance since last season and now that he has DiPietro's ear he may well get it.

Agree with most all of that.

The bold is the only part I would differ on.
Jones problem at this point is his team is limping into the second best game on the schedule (as of today) in a situation where he could essentially be eliminated from the east 2 games into the conference schedule with Bama still looming. I don't think it would be illogical to believe that those looking at this are projecting based on the current condition plus what is still ahead on the schedule. They may not see it as grave in the sense that he's gonna be fired Monday morning pending a loss, but if the direction and performance doesn't take a significant turn its going to end that way sooner than later.

But you are dead on with the comments from Currie, Peyton, and Phil at this point. They re not gonna turn on a sitting coach through the media and have to explain that to the next guy they re gonna try and hire if Jones is fired. Bad business.

The battle captain has given Butch a vote of confidence.

“I think it is silly to even talk about his job being on the line.”

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/t...llip-fulmer-not-go-butch-jones-hot-seat-talk/

For all of you guys who don't understand how PR works, let me go ahead and end the suspense for you. No public figure around UT football is going to come out and say publicly that "Butch needs to be fired" or is "going to be fired if he doesn't win" or is on the "hot seat" or anything else of the sort. They are all going to say that they stand behind Butch and they support Butch just like they all did with Dooley right before he was canned. If you can't figure out why they do this, it would be a waste of my time to try to explain it to you. Just know that it is more telling that they are having to come out to make these remarks than it is what they are saying.
