I still think it will be Adkins and/or Taylor at the end of the day. Why would a guy working on an NFL pension move to Knoxville for an extra $50K or so per year, especially to work for a coach who is one lackluster season away from being right back in the frying pan. Most commentators who I have listened to the past couple of days have emphasized that it is very difficult to get guys out of the NFL due to the pension structure. UTK will probably half to up the salary for coordinators to about half a million dollars per year if they really want an NFL guy. I did hear Doug Matthews say that he thinks Phil's first call should be Walt Harris, not that I agree or disagree with that opinion.

I'd normally agree with you about it being a hard sell to get guys to leave the NFL, but from what I've read Kippy Brown has now qualified for his full NFL pension and might actually entertain the idea of moving back closer to home.

Be interesting if Phil and Cut get into a bidding war for Kippy's services. We know that Duke was prepared to pay Paul Johnson $2million a year and I heard Cut is starting at $1.3million. Therefore, I assume that Cut has $700,000 plus whatever the current level of funding for Duke assistant coaches is. I am also assuming, righly or wrongly, that Phil will have to increase Chavis' salary to at least match whatever the new OC gets. Not to mention that Phil's raise will likely take a slice out of the funds available for assistant's salaries.

That would be asking us to ignore the entire history of Fulmer's hiring practices, which is probably unreasonable in itself. As Joe Biddle pointed out in his column today, this is a situation where Fulmer is going to have to change his stripes.

There was a KNS article out yesterday that said that's the biggest difference between '05 and '07 concerning Kippy's interest in college ball. Namely, he now has the 15 years required for the NFL pension.

This is the guy I like most thus far! He's HC material a few years down the road and if he helps CPF get another title, it just might happen for all you wanting to see Fulmer retire. But, he won't leave unless the program is in great shape.

I hope you are not right, but you maybe Right.. Does CPF need to look outside the Box for an OC.. IMO He has to do so... With Taylor and the others possibilty leaving plus the others this will be the measuring stick to see how much heart CPF has in the Game...If he wants to Coach and really change things up then he will go Outside the box... To stay within the UT System and promote from within would IMO be an acceptance of staying the course and accepting standard procedures. This would be an indicator of him serving his time out and it would be about CPF being the Winningest Coach in UT History and not about the future of the Program...

Change it up now and Coach...Hopefully he will use the fact that the current coaches on the UT Staff have no Play Calling Experience to gracefully dismiss them from the possibility of landing a job or better yet that the UT Offense needs a new direction in Offenses to get in tune with the Rest of the College World..

Do we hire from within or bring in New Blood to energize the Staff and the players and Recruits... One positive note is that we have to recruit this year but not for the critical Skilled positions but position that are least affected by the move...

This hire will tell us which route CPF is headed....

So now we should limit the search for OC's to people who are head coaches in Div 1AA, or, what exactly is your point other than you don't respect KB's career path as so many others do?

The guy is 52 years old with almost 30 years coaching eperience and his was an offensive coordinator for ONE (1) year. Other than that he has been a position coach. I think he is probably better qualified to be the UTK WR coach than the OC. There's no disrespect about it. I just happen to check the guy's CV before I endorse him. All things being even though, I think Fulmer's experience as an OC probably makes it easier for him to hire someone who has no OC experience (Adkins/Taylor) because he can help them out; however the bad taste over the "Fulmanders" exeperience might make him think twice.

If you checked his resume, he was a HC in the XFL (is that a "position coach"). Bad career move as the XFL collapsed so quickly, perhaps, but he cites the League's well-known reluctance to hire minority Head Coaches at that time as to why he left the NFL. Notice, they welcomed him back. The League has been doing better since that time, but it's hard to blame him for that decision, IMO.

Since you have 'checked his CV' maybe you could go ahead and post the names of the Head Coaches who have hired him along with some of the players he's coached. We'll all recognize some quality names on that list, don't you think?
