The man raised expectations by winning 152 games, two SEC championships, 5 Eastern Division championships and one NC. We got confused and thought these accomplishments were to be expected on a regular basis at a state university located in a state with relatively modest recruiting prospects in a conference that regularly produces 5 or 6 top ten teams during the season. As we council those in the investment business who naively expect to regularly beat the S&P 500, you need to manage your expectations.

Ever heard of a guy named Robert Neyland?
Is he still available? Seems as if he died decades ago but thanks for making my point of periods, sometimes lengthy, of mediocrity interspersed with periods of greatness or near greatness. You can look it up. I’ll be at the game today watching the results of a prolonged period of self imposed mediocrity.

I'm pretty sure fulmer's past success isn't the issue. Your divided and fighting BOT has not allowed Tennessee to hire a proven power 5 coach. These guys kept trying to get here and one reason or another the BOT/AD said NO, let's go with the up and comer. Tennessee's coaching search has been handled like they had mid-tier team expectations. And they've gotten the results of a mid-tier team. I blame it on cause and effect.

The problem is not Fulmer’s past success, the problem is BOT and not wanting to spend money to put a big name on the sidelines. Success sets your standard and the standard is winning here. I have no problem with it. Do the expectations get outta control almost always? Hell yes they do but expectations come with the job no matter how crazy they can be sometimes

Every SEC team experiences droughts (exceptions -- Vandy KY), some are 6 years of up and down, some are 10 + years.. Ours is 12 without getting over the hump....this is only the 2nd total rebuild I ve witnessed in 50+ years of watching Vol Football..

Winning 2 SEC championships and 1 national championship in 17 years with years of top 10 talent is not setting high expectations in the SEC. Now if you want to talk about Saban or Spurrier you might have a discussion here. But I will give you a good effort grade for trying to prop up our average athletic director whom is less than average in coaching hires.

Winning your last SEC championship 20 years ago is high expectations?

Tenn has basically been hit with the death penalty ever since Kiffin bolted on the midnight train, and I’m seriously wondering if the death penalty, complete rebuild from the bottom, wouldn’t have been quicker.

Here is another one telling everyone Tennessee fans should just eat their gruel and like it.. Only the second winningest program in the SEC, but yeah we're not worthy of having expectations for a program that until recently, was top 10 in all time wins as well. We've been down so long people have forgot we were once a pretty good program..

Fulmer basically walked into an already made situation, rode its coat tails, then proceeded to run it into the ground of where we are today!

Tell this to Clemson, we don’t want them to get their expectations to high

Where is the program today? Is it better today than it was in 2008? Is it as good or better than it was in ‘92 when Fulmer took over?
Are you seriously trying to say that it’s Fulmer’s fault the program is in the shape it is today?
