Fulmer should forfeit his buyout...

Coach Fulmer's contract was the result of negotiations between the parties. The terms in that contract were agreeable to all concerned at the time the contract was signed. I suspect that both Hamilton and Fulmer considered all the possibilities prior to signing even though neither probably anticipated a disaster of a season. Contracts are binding document and should be. For any of us to expect either of the parties to give away their considerations is unrealistic at best.

I have not joined the slaughter Fulmer crowd but if Coach Fulmer is in his last head coaching days at UT as it appears, then he should leave with every penny the school guaranteed him in his contract.

I agree 100%.

Well said! A contract is a contract -- unless you are in the NFL.

I doubt that he thinks it's his fault, unfortunately.

he's human; he blames himself after every loss just as much as the next coach...he's just not going to get pissed off at the media, cry in front of them, or compare losses to pearl harbor

The original post wasn't really meant to be taken seriously. Obviously, Fulmer's not going to say "thanks, but no thanks" to his buyout. And he's obviously not going to walk home from Columbia.

I'd be embarrassed to accept a buyout check after failing so miserably.

It takes a unique brand of idiot to find a way to lose 6 games twice in four years at Tennessee.

He should have to walk home from Columbia...and should have Johnny Majors riding along side him, laughing at him for the entire 3 months it takes him to make it back to Knoxville.
The real culprit in all of this is Mike Hamilton being manipulated in contract talks or like some professionals refer 'schooled" in contract negotiations. How on earth he allowed Fulmer such a lofty contract , two years removed from a 5 win season, is beyond me. Fulmer needs to go and Hamilton needs to go with him. It's that simple. Both have equal participation in turnng Tennessee football into just another "Three Stooges comedy sketch".
