Probably true, but it really comes into play a lot in college sports.
emotions are a big part of the game to be sure, but any AD that can't set aside emotion and sentimentality in making a hire needs to be fired.Emotions are a big part of the college game. This is not professional football and that's part of what makes it better.
Ever seen over 100k pack an NFL stadium? I doubt it... they don't make 'em that big.
The NFL is all business; no doubt about that.
Tell that to a Green Bay, Wisconsin native.
it's the pay, the length of season and year round nature of pro sports that take the emotion from the field. It has nothing to do with the lack of fervor from the fan base.
If you took anything to mean that I want you to make a statement, I assure you that you badly misunderstood.Well. The games themselves have a much more commercial feel to them. All the fanfare stuff is a bit gimicky. Traditions like the Vol Walk or running through the T are replaced by players running through smoke.
Its really a relative comparison.
Maybe this is the qualified statement you guys want me to make.
Relative to the NFL, college football is more emotive.
If you took anything to mean that I want you to make a statement, I assure you that you badly misunderstood.
pure brilliance. how do you come up with this stuff? If you took anything I said to mean that I give a crap what you want me to do, you're sad self-centered sap.![]()
Look, once you get to this stage of the argument, I know I can't beat you at name-calling cuz in that territory you reign King.:bow2:
In the south that is definitely true, but I think that depends largely on where you live. Steelers, Eagles, Packers and Pat fans are pretty nuts.
not true in the least. you don't think the same when people are patting backs around here, do you?It seems this debate of emotion started with the question of emotion being involved with hiring J. Majors.
To say being a UT player had no bearing or should have no bearing is to ignore reality. If you were the AD, wouldn't you consider the fanbase reaction to your hiring decision? If not then why are you participating on this board? Do you not think your opinion matters?
the fact Majors had won a NC certainly was the main factor.
Also, can we not express our opinions with a little more class, and respect others right to express theirs. IMHO resorting to name calling only exposes that you don't have the abilty to do any better.
Probably a waste of time, but felt it needed to be said.
