I remember the days when J Majors would bust the T with a team a whole lot less talented than we have now and the BIG Orange had fight. The vols had heart and the Teers had a coach that had a team that believed. Never went into games knowing we were gonna lose. I missed the days of when the leaves turned orange and the players would fight to the end, yes MR. MAJORS I miss the vols that had more fight and heart than we had talent.:good!:

FYI, Dooley will have had more bad seasons after this year than Fulmer ever had. Sometimes you don't know what you have until you get rid of it. I was one of the people saying it was time for Fulmer to go, but I would have never said that if I knew we would have hired two clowns after him.

Amen brother!! I always wonder where this team would be now had we not gone through CLK and CDD.

Fulmer kept telling us he could turn it around. We should have listned to him.
I miss going into games KNOWING we were gonna win. owning Ga.SC.Miss St.Ole Miss Ky. Vandy. And playing it tough with Ala and Fla. Yearly big bowl games. Look what we have become. Miss you CPF:salute:

Fulmer had 2 losing seasons in 16 full seasons and his lowest win total in the winning seasons was 8, 3 times. Have our expectations changed that much?

I'm not sure I'll live to see it considering how far apart the programs are now. Not only are their players a lot better, they are hungier and a lot tougher mentally.

Or... It was the other way round, Tennessee were Nat'l contenders...

This. Bama had some teams during that time that were weak by their standards, but very few of them wouldn't crush the 2012 Vols. They weren't that bad, UT was just that good for a little while.

It may sound like I am hating, as I do love looking back and celebrating our past, but is anyone els getting frustrated by all the damn highlights throughout the games of past greatness. We know we were great. IT just kills me that we have NOTHING to look to in recent times to be proud of. Again, love it, but it is just sooooo frustrating to sit at the games and every break its a blast from the past moment for us to watch that further sets in our minds of crappy we are now.

Honestly? I was in the bunch that was calling for his firing in '08 but at the same time praying that we wouldn't regret it a few years down the road. I'm regretting it now.

I was in that camp as well...

Volbeef has said this before and I am beginning to see that he may have a shred of correctness, the mistake that was made was not appointing an interim in 10 and making an effort for a homerun hire after the season. Letting CPF go wasn't a mistake, hind sight is NOT 20/20 here. He was at the end of a career and he let UT down more than anyone will admit. Kiffin was a "questionable" hire. If he was still here and winning, we would be singing his praises. I for one believe that we would be on probation and probably have lost scholarships because of him. The NCAA went light on us because of how he left, that is my opine and always has been. I just think that hiring CDD and giving him the contract that they did was a knee jerk on MH's part. MH is the real reason we are where we are. We are locked in to paying for a product that didn't pan out like CBP did. 7-5 plus a bowl win gets him another year and maybe even an extension, but I don't think that extension will have any teeth in it. I think next year is his last year although, if we don't play SC close next week and/or beat them, he could be gone before Thanksgiving. I don't think DH is stupid enough to fire him before the season is over.

Fulmer deserves better. Let's bring him back and let him ride it out right this time.

He is just 62, a pup.

I have thought this a few times. I dont doubt for a second he would come back in an instant if asked.
Has anything like that ever happened before?

Volnation would completely explode if he did.

Yeah... 07 - not so good, but a winning season. 08 - injuries plagued the team and the Vols worst year in decades. Fulmer was fired because we didn't beat BAMA in 08 (but who did???). We have been "rebuilding" for four years since.

Fulmer was a good coach... just had a couple of bad years, made a couple of bad hires (the OC from Richmond comes to mind). If he had been better supported and motivated by Hamilton, Peterson, and Haslam... who knows, he MAY have been able to turn it around... he sure beats what we've seen from Liar Kiffin and Dooley. I like Dooley, but he simply is not an SEC-level coach. That is what I've been saying since Hamilton hired him.

I'm with ya on that.. I think it was Spurrier..

Phillip did turn them in. But it was after Spurrier, Lloyd Carr, Houston Nutt and Tubberville. Then Fulmer did. The difference is that Fulmer was beating their asses.

How old are y'all? Did you see any of what was going on back then? Phil spilled the beans and Spurrier complained but it was Phil that had death threats until this day. I don't blame Phil for coming forward he should have.

This was probably a record-setting amount of crimson. There were Bammers in some of the best seats. I don't remember season ticket holders ever offloading tickets to rivals like this. Hart may not care that much, but fans do. It's embarrassing and wouldn't have happened if UT ticket holders had any hope at all.

This team reminds me of Phil 2005 team that won 5 games. It also resembles the 2008 team that won 5 games and lost to
Wyoming.

If Phil had done his job the last few years TN would still be a top tier team.

If Phillip had an AD that knew that focusing on athletics would cover for a smaller effort in fundraising, Fulmer would have had a season to turn it around. History's would have been on his side.

I understand K-State is an anomaly, but Snyder is making the argument for a man that bleeds a school's colors to come back and right the wrong that has happened.
