Really fellas- its called being constructive. It's what coaches do to avoid making negative statements. Less that 7 hours ago you all were content, positive, and hopeful. Now you're all a bunch of whiners again.

It was a crappy performance. Crompton played poorly. The Clawfense is not yet running smoothly. Foster again had a fumble at on a crucial drive. The defense played soft in the second half. Lincoln failed to capitalize on several opportunities. I can say this, but the coach chooses not to because he sees it as a team loss, not as individual losses.

I'm sure he's not fine with it, but honestly what do you expect him to say?

I've never seen such fairweather fans. Waahh waahh waahh for another season. Go root for the Gators you bunch of lightweights.

I agree with the constructive part. This is all PR and should be looked at as no more than that

shoulda said and been truthful to the fans that are true to the tennessee vols,that he screwed up by passing on 2nd 4 all nite,with the 2 best running backs in college,as big and fast backs.

If we were truly fairweather fans, we would be rooting for a USC or a Florida. Demanding better than mediocre football does not make us fairweather.

It has been years, a decade almost, of seasons where we underperform. You can blame the players all you like, and they do share some blame tonight, but the one constant throughout all of this poor play is the coach at the top. Fairweather fan? You are absurd and need to pull your head out of the sand. The Volunteer fans deserve better than this. We are one of the most well-funded, well-supported, fan bases in the country and we consistently underachieve year after year.

I am a 73 grad of UT and have been watching the Vols for over 35 years so I have a little perspective. We have been in a pattern for a good 10 years where we lose games we shouldn't, get mad and then pull out a few that we should win. In between we squeak by wins over really bad teams. When it's all over, we have won 9 or 10 games. After a bad night's sleep, i am just sick and tired of underperforming on a regular basis. We keep people in the game who fumble the ball; we keep playing the prevent defense; we keep getting out-schemed, etc. etc. I have seen this for so long I just can't stand it anymore.

There were SOME things last night that showed me that we could be a really great team this year. We got outcoached in an embarassing way. And the players also made TONS of crucial mistakes. I know Fulmer's not going anywhere, in part, due to the large amounts of money it would take to buy him out. But does anyone else think that the amount of money we've spent on his bonuses and raises over the last few years would've already paid for his buyout?? That being said, you can get a decent hotel rate in Nashville for the bowl game if you act now. Good Lord I hope it doesn't come down to that.

Why care game-to-game? He knows he's set. He made it to the SECCG last year. He's got until 2010 to make it again. By that point, he's made $6 million more and might have stumbled his way onto the wins record.

That's right, and our Prevent Defense (Prevent a Win) made him look like :furious3: superstar. It was painfully obvious that Chow used last year's 'Bama game tape to make his second-half adjustments. Chavis pulls this crap at least four or five times a year; he needs to be replaced. :banghead2:

Really? You're kidding, right?

How about the coaches giving up the very effective running game, not pressuring a rattled third-string QB, and dropping your outstanding secondary 10 yards off the line?

You could tell me that the coaches threw the game and I wouldn't be surprised. That's how bad our second-half gameplan was.

Underachieved? I hope that's all it is. I keep thinking what if the talent is not as good as what we were led to believe.

The only thing worth agreeing about is the last statement. UCLA didn't win that game last night, Tennessee lost it, but we'll let the delusional people on here continue to believe that Phillip Fulmer is taking us to bigger and greater things.

Post-game quotes are nothing but relating to the media. He's not going to say how angry, ashamed, or frustrated he is. He's just going to try to set a good image for the university and get out of there as soon as he can. Believe me, the players hear a lot worse than "this team has character and toughness".....they'll hear a lot worse than I can probably type on this board and it's not good print to represent the university either. He wants to win, he wants the team to get better....but you can't say anything bad/realistic/not-positive in front of the media because then it becomes a black eye for the university or an image of UT hiring a coach who has no faith in players at all


It's just giving the media something after the game. Nothing more should be looked into it than that

You just can't get away with this mantra this year. It’s this kind of "blame the players" crap that provides protection for the underachieving coaches every year. UCLA had a new third-string QB that would have completely melted down if we would have applied pressure.

The key here is that with an attacking defense, the QB only has 3 seconds (max) to either throw the ball or take a licking (or both). Lets see... (40/4.4)* 2 = approximately 18 yards (I used a muliplier of 2 bacause a stiff bump on the receiver should take away one second). So, the question is, can our secondary provide man coverage for 18 yards? I would hope so, but the problem is that they were not allowed to try; that, my friend , is not their fault.

Fine, I can understand the need for spin. But really, take SOME credit for not prepping the team correctly. Something like...

"It's my fault. These kids have worked so hard the entire off season. We (the coaching staff) just expected different things for tonight. The players did what we asked from them. We (the coaching staff) have learned from this and will do better to anticipate what the other team has. I'm not going to promise that we will win every game, but we can do a better job to prepare the players."

It may not make the loss less hurtful, but at least it's somewhat honest. Spin only works if there is some truth to it. Otherwise, it's just a flat out lie. And easily seen through.

I think if we play UCLA 10 times they win 7 simply because Norm Chow is a much better coach than Chief.
