Fulmer plans to coach again

IMO it's going to take a couple more years for Fulmer to accept that he will have to work his way back up to a top coaching job, if he is serious about coaching again.

I would venture to guess he got offers from BCS schools, just not competitive ones. Iowa State comes to mind...possibly Syracuse but I doubt that one with the hiring of Marrone.

Fulmer IS probably serious about coaching again, but he is in denial of his coaching shortcomings, still living in the nineties. He has an exaggerated sense of accomplishment, and ability, something that the coaching marketplace can see through. If Fulmer wants 200 victories to insure his HOF selection, he is going to have to get them the hard way via the lower tier schools. None of the established programs are even going to consider what will be a 60 year old coach of another era.

Given USCe's penchant for hiring coaches at the tail-end of their career, he could end up there I suppose if he wanted to stay in the SEC. I'm sure the OBC is ready to retire and spend his days at Augusta.

I think he should get back into coaching. Why not? I could see him having a lot of success in the right situation.

Spaziani is a few years older than Fulmer with no head coaching experience (well, a bowl game) and DeFilippo (who was rumored to be rather cordial to Fulmer) still chose him over Phil.

Something without a lot of spotlight maybe. A mid major probably. He knows how to coach and would provide a huge name and some pub and cred for a mid major school.

Just goes to show the self-image Fulmer has is not the image perceived by AD's, at least not at this point.

If fulmer coaches again, does he have to give back some of those millions he got in buyout money from UT?

There is going to be a handful of re-treads trying to get back into HC'ing for 2010.

What order would you put Gary Barnett, Phil Fulmer, Dennis Franchione, Ron Prince, and Jon Gruden?

Out of those names, I can only see two (Gruden, Fulmer) going to BCS conference schools. Gruden could probably name his price @ ND and Fulmer could be a nice hire for a school like Indiana.

A school I'd keep an eye on w.r.t. Fulmer coaching again is Louisville. Kragthorpe is almost certainly going to get canned after this season. They would probably be one of the highest caliber programs that would consider hiring him. I can't see another program on the level of UT taking a chance on him.
Good post. I don't understand why it was seemingly ignored. Louisville does meet two key criteria that CPF is looking for: (1) a BCS program; (2) that is committed to competing for championships. IDK about NC contender, but Louisville should definitely be a Big East Conference championship contender with regularity and Louisville is committed to that. With CPF, Louisville could get a proven big program HC and probably at a reasonable price, due to CPF already getting paid such a big buyout. CPF and Louisville just might be a pretty good fit for each other, IMHO.
