IMO it's going to take a couple more years for Fulmer to accept that he will have to work his way back up to a top coaching job, if he is serious about coaching again.
Spaziani is a few years older than Fulmer with no head coaching experience (well, a bowl game) and DeFilippo (who was rumored to be rather cordial to Fulmer) still chose him over Phil.Fulmer IS probably serious about coaching again, but he is in denial of his coaching shortcomings, still living in the nineties. He has an exaggerated sense of accomplishment, and ability, something that the coaching marketplace can see through. If Fulmer wants 200 victories to insure his HOF selection, he is going to have to get them the hard way via the lower tier schools. None of the established programs are even going to consider what will be a 60 year old coach of another era.
Good post. I don't understand why it was seemingly ignored. Louisville does meet two key criteria that CPF is looking for: (1) a BCS program; (2) that is committed to competing for championships. IDK about NC contender, but Louisville should definitely be a Big East Conference championship contender with regularity and Louisville is committed to that. With CPF, Louisville could get a proven big program HC and probably at a reasonable price, due to CPF already getting paid such a big buyout. CPF and Louisville just might be a pretty good fit for each other, IMHO.A school I'd keep an eye on w.r.t. Fulmer coaching again is Louisville. Kragthorpe is almost certainly going to get canned after this season. They would probably be one of the highest caliber programs that would consider hiring him. I can't see another program on the level of UT taking a chance on him.
