If you could only keep one coach at the UT, who would it be? you also have to take into consideration how important the sport is to the school.

ill say bruce pearl.

The funny thing about this is that you said take into consideration how important the sport is to the school and you still said Bruce Pearl...

That is a tough question. I know that football is probably the most important sport in Knoxville, in some people's opinion. Pat Summitt will probably be the position hardest to be replaced. How well would each of the sports do if any of these were replaced.
First off, I think that the Lady Vols would still be good, because of how they've done in the past. However, maybe the women come to play for Pat. How will this affect women's basketball in BIG ORANGE COUNTRY once she decides to retire?

Coach Bruce Pearl is doing a very good job and they Vols can only get better and the recruits probably too.

As far as the football team, how would it affect recruiting if Fulmer were replaced by a lesser known name. If the Vols go after another football coach, it would need to be a well known name.

Not sure if this answers your question, but I'm not coming out and answering the question as to which sport is the most important. Is it football or men's basketball or women's basketball?:whistling: :dunno:

Irregardless, I'm still ALL VOL!!!!! GO VOLS!!!!:dance2:

BP is the best coach out of the 3 for sure. Football would survive w/o Fulmer, but w/o BP our basketball team is mediocre again.

well football is obviously the major sport here...i think bruce pearl will make men's bball second most important next year....but i think pearl is a better coach than fulmer (do more with less).

:stop:.. While I would like to agree with you on your first point, I just can't.. Rite now you can't put Pearl next to Summit.. She has 6 titles close to a 1,000 wins with more on the way.. I agree with the other two.. But I'm sorry, the proof is in the pudding when it comes Summit.:pardon:

Pearl is definately comparable to Summit....IMO it is not very hard to win championships in women's basketball(not taking anything away from Summit, she is still a GREAT coach)....there are only about 10 good teams. The competition level in men's bball is MUCH higher, which is why it is not as easy to win.

The difference is Summit has built a resume at UT.. It's gonna take more than 2 good years for him to show how great a coach he can be for our University. While I think he will be an excellent coach down the line.. I just can't say Bruce is the better coach.. It's gonna take consistancy, in order to change my mind..:shades:

well obviously summit is the more proven coach...but the question said to take into consideration the sport that is more important tot he university.

Two years ago women's basketball was prolly the more important sport...but right now, its football, mens bball, women's bball IMO

I agree with you somewhat, and I respect your opinion, but to me the most important coach is BP. I could live w/o women's basketball at Tennessee, but men's bball actually keeps me excited during the winter and spring. Losing BP would mean more to me than Summit.

Believe me, I love Bruce and would love to say he's better.. But you have to respect Pat's greatness..
I love the men's team more, but I just can't say he's the better coach yet..

Hands down Summit. Who knows if she would ever be a good men's coach, BUT if I was a girl in high school who else would you want to go play college ball for? Top 5 every year!? Can't beat that....
