I certainly think very highly of Mike Hamilton," Fulmer said. "It's great for Mike Hamilton, but it's also great for Tennessee."

yeah, making TBA into a once again serviceable arena, the current and future plans for Neyland, having 19 of 20 athletic teams compete in postseason play last year, as well as being AD over the only school in the country to have top five attendance figures in men's basketball, women's basketball and football prove that Hamilton is simply riding the "Bruce Pearl Hire" out for it's maximum duration.

There are a lot of idiots on this board, but the ones who continue to act as if Mike Hamilton is incompetent are the worst of the bunch.

He's been very good, other than the fulmer contract extension last summer. But he's been working to redeem himself from that one.

I agree 100% and I have a lot of faith in him in the most important decision of his career.

Yeah I get annoyed reading some people blaming him for this horrible season when He did not coach one second this season...Stop blaming him for how bad the players are playing...He has nothing to do with it.

ill admit that those are great things that you have listed, in which i didnt know. a huge majority of UT fans are football fans, however, and football fans only. it doesnt make them an idiot to expect the AD to keep the school's major sports program competetive.

He didn't deserve the raise he got in late 2003/early 2004 coming on the heels of 2 Ckick-fil-A bowl debacles and blowing the SEC title in 2001...

He isnt directly responsible for the product on the field, thats a given. But, one of the dumbest AD moves in college football history was giving fulmer a RAISE and an EXTENSION, for getting blown out by our two biggest rivals (Florida and Bama) and BACKDOORING into the SECC game. He just got lucky that UGA beat FL.....we didnt really deserve that SEC East title.....and he sure as heck didnt deserve that raise that is costing the university its worst football season in the history of the program, and a ton of money being paid to a guy who will be sitting on his couch and clapping at everything.

I think the extension was promised if he got us into the big game and he did. That is called keeping you word not a character flaw. What was the buyout without the extension?

Even so....shouldnt an extension be based on the performance of the team for the whole year? If for some reason we backed into the SECC game with an 8-5 record and lost it....I dont think that deserves a raise at all, do you? Not trying to argue at all, just interested in hearing other points of view.

contract extensions aside, it's athletic department attempted suicide to fire a coach after one losing season in 13 seasons, one of which resulted in a national title and the coach holds a 75% winning pct. It's complete suicide if you fire your coach after competing in the conference championship game.

He has 2 losing seasons (2005 and 2008), the latter of which is shaping up to be the worst in school history. Take a look at his record since 2001, and pay special attention to the record against ranked teams, even at home. You cant live off of 10 years ago forever.....which was the last time we won a SEC title. And you know as well as everyone else that we backed into that SECC game last year. We were NOT the best team in the East. We benefited from Tebow getting banged up and GA beating FL. You have to look at the program as a whole over the past 7-8 years. I dont know about you, but Im tired of being blown out by Florida and Georgia, and the last 2 years, Bama. 8-5 seasons are "winning" seasons, sure, but I expect more from our great football program.

then read some of my posts. I'm ecstatic about Fulmer being gone, but 2005 wasn't ten years between sec titles. it was also coming off of back to back ten win seasons. There was no way Fulmer could have reasonably been fired. Once you tally everything up from the past ten years, it's a lot more logical from an outsider's perspective to fire him now.

as for getting blown out by Georgia, where have you been the past few years?

Redeem himself? Only if he coughed up the extra year's compensation from his own coffers. Of course Hamilton knows now that the extension was a stupid, costly move, although he wouldn't admit it publicly.

How much of that did you personally pay for?
