Fulmer Needs To Take The Wheel

Never thought I'd say this, but the time has come for the only person who can clean this mess up to step in. He's obviously got booster backing or he would not be athletic director. Seems to get along with Boyd and Plowman. Fan reaction would be mixed, but the nostalgia factor would bring people around. We'd have to give him a raise but I don't think he'd demand much. Give him a few years to pass Neyland's career wins record and teach some guys how to be a head coach. In-state recruiting would pick up.

Nothing farther from the truth than giving Fulmer any more
control. Sure cataslymic failure for anything in Orange. Fulmeris a Winchester bumpkin.

This was Fulmer’s plan all along lol

I think it’d be a bad move if for no other reason than his age. However, I’ve seen VN come up with about 50 ideas the past 2 weeks that were way worse than this
50? That’s being generous. But I guess Tis the season

Finally, someone that speaks truth to power.

If it happened, which I seriously doubt, it's going to be for stabilization purposes only. We're not going to compete for the East or anything like that; though I'm sure we'll get those type of pumpers who come out saying he'll have us back competing.

Granted we're not competing for the East for a good while anyway.
Ummmmm....someone says hello

That's probably going to be a common gut reaction, but the longer you chew on it the more you'll come to realize that he is the man for the moment. There is nobody else.
Indeed, the Lion of Knoxville, the Leonidas of Rocky Top, is truly a man for all seasons. Fear not, my dear fellows, once the Admiral of the Vol Navy returns, the program will be swiftly returned to safe harbor....and then woe betide the program's enemies, for surely they will be lost.

Fulmer apologist and defenders are worse than the Pruitt defenders.
How does it make us apologists to point out simple facts?? Look in the mirror my dear fellow, for it is this type of bellicosity that ousted the first son of Vol football from the vanguard of the Vol Army, and subsequent to that, how has the program fared???? I daresay you pine for the days of SEC crowns and national titles?? To return to those halcyon heights, you must simply reach out and take the succor offered to you in the form of one Fulmer, Philip.

its not obvious that he has booster support........he swept in while the former AD was fumbling the football. things got so bad, Fulmer went around the boosters and straight to the school president. she was so frustrated with Currie, that she gave Phil the keys just to calm the waters. one of the few times that the boosters were out leveraged due to the embarrassment of the coaching search. also, the boosters put Currie on Schiano. once that decision blew back into the university's face, the President stopped listening to boosters and decided to hire Fulmer on her own.

Now, Fulmer is being exposed due to Pruitt's failures. although all other sports are doing well, UT is bleeding revenue under Pruitt, which gives the boosters more leverage with the new President.

If football is put on probation that requires a 1 year bowl ban, expect Fulmer to fire Pruitt with cause, but dont expect Hugh Freeze unless Fulmer is fired.

It's time, as the OP suggested, for CPF to take the wheel, and for the "fans" to support the program.

He's about 10 months older than Saban. He seems to be rested and slimmed down a bit. I wouldn't worry too much. It would probably be smart to have an actual plan in place for how long this would last before he hangs it up for good so we don't wind up with a Bobby Bowden situation.
It doesn’t matter how old Saban is compared to Fulmer because Saban is a coach who adapts with changes in the game over time. Fulmer, on the other hand, seems to be too stubborn to adapt his thinking, which was evident when the game passed him by during the early to mid decade of the 2000’s. Cutcliffe came back and extended Phil’s career by a few years but once Cutcliffe left again, we saw how good Fulmer really was without him during the 2008 season.
