Maybe it was just because I've been focusing at college in Syracuse the past 4 years, and have been living up here in Jersey my whole life, but I had not really seen the merits of people bashing Phil, and blaming him for what's been a downturn of this program. I guess my optimism survived so far away from the scene.

That really changed today.

This team was a legitimate title contender every season (except 2000) from 1995-2001. They were defensively sound, strong in conference, very good in bowl games, and generally won close games.

Ever since, its been a horrifying turnaround. This team now finds a way to lose close games, plays TERRIBLY in bowl games.

And, what I think has been most important, they have totally obliterated their homefield advantage. Any SEC team with a pulse should no longer fear Neyland Stadium. Florida, LSU, UGA, Auburn, South Carolina, VANDERBILT, and ND out of conference, have all walked in here and won over the last three seasons.

Next season is the key. A fourth-year starter at QB, a young defense coming back, hopefully a couple of stud wideouts coming back (Meachem should stay if he has any smarts). Next year will be the put up or shut up year. If this team keeps on losing to upper-echelon SEC foes, Phil should resign. Period.

if he replaces slade with a good coach and gets a good o-line coach this team could jell. but agree with
with another poster on here he dose not have the
contacts out there to get anything but small time
assistants. except,taylor,brooks,cutcliff,chavis

and caldwell is an ok recruiter. ends havent done much in a while.but we have had to move alot of
them to tackle.adkins, roper, slade eaten dough gota
go!!!!jury still out on luke.recruiting class is looking
good so far.

and one thing we need to hire a kicking game
Coordinator.

'CuseVol, I understand where you are coming from but this is the same thing that many of us have been hearing since 1999. It's always "key injuries" and a few "bad bounces". Realistically, I don't expect Hamilton or the trustees to do anything adverse to Fulmer, which means that if a change is going to occur CPF is going to have to have a hand in initiating it. IMO if CPF really cared about UT football as he says he does then he would recognize that he and his staff are largely to blame for the slump and he'd step aside. That would probably restore much of my respect for him.

People forget that we had one of the best Quarterbacks to ever play the sport of football for four years. tough to replicate that
